Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Painting Problems 3Aug 08, 2019 4:43 pm Mirrmu83 The paint companies do have dried film thickness specs in the product info sheets, did they provide that info and does it match No, we were not provided with this so I don't know. But I DO KNOW we have undercoat showing on walls, skirts and archs! Re: Painting Problems 4Dec 05, 2019 8:49 pm Mum to 3Ms We have been in our new home just on 12 months and are still "fighting" to get a decent paint job. Our contract stated 3 coats of paint on timber and 2 coats on walls. We paid an extra $2,250 for a 3rd coat on the walls. From the moment we walked into our new dwelling, the painting has been a HUGE disappointment. It was obvious with the naked eye that there were NOT 3 coats on all the walls. The painter emphatically stated he had done three coats, so we eventually got the Taubmans Paint Rep out and he used a device to test the thickness of the paint. The report stated, of the surfaces tested, some of the painted surfaces had 2 coats and some had 3 coats. However, the thickness of the paint, on all surfaces painted, was substantial enough to equate to 3 coats. The report also pointed out that it can only read layers of different densities and can not tell what the layers are. Furthermore, if the layers are made up of several coats of the same paint.(what a waste of time). BUT, the issue is that we PAID for 3 coats. The painter used a tinted undercoat and missed painting over the tinted undercoat quite often. Had he done a proper 3rd coat on all surfaces he would have covered the missed spots. The painter has come back and touched up the spots he missed but this leaves a tell-tale patch and doesn't give us the 3 even coats we expected and paid for. Angry, frustrated and warning others to not waste your money with a third coat from the builder. Save your money and pay a Professional painter after handover. Don't even get me started on the exterior painting..... I'm sorry you have had problems with your painter, but on a two coat system house, I would highly recommend getting a third coat applied. To get another coat applied after handover can be very expensive, working around fans, lights, switches, floor coverings etc. I don't know how big your house is but $2250 sounds very expensive. We charge around $5 per floor plan metre extra, so 200m2 = $1000. and with that, you get a low sheen on the wet areas ceilings, Dulux wash and wear and lots more care included. I am not a brick expert, but rendering would be 1 option, it would be costly to do the entire house though.... 2 6677 Hi all, has anyone been ask to do the weeds in their property while in the middle of build?
