I will cut down the RG6 into 4 instead of 6. As I said above, the figure is for the maximum points possible.
Using the patch panel, one cable will run from the Foxtel dish, and the other one will be the distribution cable (from the decoder to the starserve cabinet to the entire house). The same thing applies to the second pair (as the wife tends to have the UBI satellite TV subscription). The other two pair in the rumpus will have the same purpose. As for the CAT6 cables, I prefer as many data points as possible. 2x Desktop PC and Mac 1x Xbox360 1x HTPC 1x Network printer/scanner 1x fax It'd be a good option once the CAT6-HDMI adapters become cheaper, so yeah but then again, a deep thoughts when things become serious, might cut down the number of the data points to cope with the 12-port switches supplied by Clipsal. Re: Got a quote for Star Serve system a bit too much ? 19Mar 16, 2009 6:24 pm oh ok.. I have foxtel iq2 (HD) so they don't have RF out, so I couldn't do that anyway. Plus I wouldn't want to have SD quality being distributed. So instead I just put component cable from theatre to lounge and that will do me. I can move the foxtel box to bedroom if I wanted to as the TV points do both fox and fta with the optic fibre network.
I have an xbox 360 and PS3 and may put other network equipment, but I will just have one network point and use a switch in the theatre room to increase my inputs. Re: Got a quote for Star Serve system a bit too much ? 20Mar 16, 2009 6:29 pm What's the maximum length allowed for component cables ? Our family room is close the lounge room so it's not a problem, but I'm concerned about the Master where it's at least 14m away from the rumpus.
