Browse Forums General Discussion Re: Conflict of Interest 22Jul 11, 2019 7:22 pm The building inspector was really good. A very nice man who seemed really concerned about the way the place had been left by the builder. He spent two hours here and that made him very late for the rest of his inspections today. It really was worthwhile getting him even if we had decided not to take it any further, just for peace of mind and to have someone who knows say yes, this is not good enough. He had a good introduction to our street. His new car, a jeep, got bogged and had to be pulled out by a neighbour. He is going to get the contact details for a good solicitor who specialises in property matters. Apparently he is retired now but might be able to help or know of someone else who can do the job properly. He said if you try to get anyone else who doesn't specialise in property law to do it you spend a lot more money and there are a lot more letters going to and fro that you have to pay for too. His report will help and he also advised me on how to gather the evidence for the QBCC and the solicitor. He said he does some teaching on quality in building and tells young people just do it right from the start, and fix defects ASAP to stop matters going any further. Once you get a bad name it will stick. Something I learnt from a quality control specialist many years ago. When in business if someone is happy with your service, they might tell one or two others. But, if you do the wrong thing by them and fail to resolve it to their satisfaction they will tell everyone they know, and possibly will continue to do so for years. I believe this would be particularly so when the product is their home. I am resolved to make it my mission now to ensure I tell everyone what we have been through here and to warn them off this builder. We would've let everything go and would've paid to fix it all ourselves but his attitude, and refusal to answer emails asking for essential certificates, then blatant untruths about what he told us previously including in front of other witnesses.....well.....all he had to do was apologise and actually provide the full variations that we paid for. And trying to intimidate me because I am a woman and treating me as if I don't know what I am talking about when I asked questions about problems here.....totally wrong. That's when I decided not to let this go. Re: Conflict of Interest 23Jul 11, 2019 7:41 pm Some advice......you are able to look up your builder with a search on your state building authority site. This will give you a fair bit of info. A certifier can also be looked up too. An ABN search will give you information about companies and this is how I found the evidence that the certification company is owned by the builder. Probably something to check. I wish I'd known about this before. I would've insisted on having someone 'independent' check and certify the stages. Now I have no peace of mind about the construction at all, and the inspector can only report on what he can see.
