I'm not entirely sure why you would need to go to the expense of building a retaining wall, when you could just put a garden in the exisiting lawn? However, given that you might want to proceed with the landscaper's recommendation, either of those colours will work with your house, as your house has both colours in its front elevation. Note, however, that sandstone will be more expensive than retaining blocks. So, which colour to choose? You have the height of that ridge to plant out three or four hedge species that would work very well to create a height staged colour/foliage display. Use a simple brick edge at the bottom and top sections to define the garden bed and keep the lawn on the verge and front yard separated. Give your wallet a break and scope the landscaper to define the garden bed edging and clear / breakup / the soil, maybe even install irrigation to the new garden bed.
