Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Merricks 45 with Metricon 85Jan 02, 2020 5:09 pm Hi Could you please help me with some inputs. I need to get a split aircon instaalled in the open area (Family and kitchen with dining) total area is around 65M2 with 2.7M ceiling height. Initially I thought I would go for a 7.1kw. However, the aircon installer visited the home and advised go for a little higher say 8.0kw. Now the dilemma is about location where it should go. Option 1 in the family area above next to window. Option 2 in dining area a little away from kitchen appliance bench. I did not have any aircon so far in the rumpus. However, i will need to get one there as well may not straightaway. As a side note, I got prewiring for Aircon by metricon they did put 20amp seperate circuit. However, they used 2.5mm copper wire. This 8.0kw machines need 4mm thickness. So the money paid to Metricon is a waste. When someone getting this done, please ask for 4mm wire. Thanks. Re: Merricks 45 with Metricon 86Jan 05, 2020 10:18 am Hi clean If it was me, I would pick the Family room option, pointing directly at the kitchen. That is where much of your heat will come from when cooking. When you're using the family room, the split system vent swing can be directed horizontal to avoid blowing directly on you when sitting there. The other option, to me seems less effective, because the cold air will blow into the dining room relying on turbulence and convection to reach the family and kitchen. Either way, the 8kW option will cool that space fairly quickly so after half an hour your system will kick back into low speed auto mode when it reaches temperature. Thanks for the tip about wiring! That is very good to keep in mind. Re: Merricks 45 with Metricon 87Jan 05, 2020 3:15 pm Id take the Gamily room option too Greater straight line area to cool, rather than it being tucked away somewhat in a corner. Good tip re the wire https://thomasarcherbuild.blogspot.com/p/blog-page.html - Thomas Archer Homes - Custom Nouveau 41 Re: Merricks 45 with Metricon 88Jan 05, 2020 10:24 pm I would go family room pointing at the kitchen. The cool air will reach the dining room fine. We put evap upstairs with a vent over the stairs and didn’t need to put in the aircon we prewired Incase. Re: Merricks 45 with Metricon 90Dec 05, 2020 1:05 pm I haven't done the cooling yet. However, enjoying the new home. Came good on the expected lines. Done wardrobe with Ikea pax turned out great and exactly as I imagined before I built the home. The mistake I did and what I would do differently if build the same house again. 3 phase instead of single and vents of heating and cooling at 200mm. Now I am thinking of getting rid of my ducted heating and go for full electric reverse cycle. I upgraded the ducted heating - Breamer to 3 zones and a compatible machine to go for add on cooling. Which was good. However I missed to increase the ducting size from 150mm to 200mm. We need 200 for cooling. The existing 150mm ducts in the ground floor I cant increase to 200. When I go for reverse cycle I have to go with the same ducts and not sure how they work. Tehcies say they are ok and they are doing and did not have problems. The capacity of system, I can't go beyond 18 kw on single phase. Now I need to find how to get the system installed that can cover both floors. Ofcourse I would never use the system for both floors at the same time. Hi, First of all, thank you to this community for sharing your thoughts and opinions.
