[don't ask the builder why BlueScope can't spell colour, that might make them grumpy ] Part of the reason that any sheet metal roof is more expensive ( colorbond, trimdeck, klip lok etc) is that you need to put an Anticon blanket underneath it for insulation and condensation. With tiles you use a cheapish sarking. Also the flashing is more complicated and has to be custom cut and installation takes longer than lead flashing used on tile roofs So yes sheet metal roofs generally cost a bit more Simeon McGovern Affordable Custom Homes, We design and build to your budget Ashington Homes www.ashingtonhomes.com.au Re: Colorbond roof 18Apr 18, 2019 11:03 am MyFirst From my build experience. There is no way colorbond is dearer than tiles if u list out the actual work been require for each. But somehow some builders make it an upgrade item. That's incorrect. A lot more tie-down is required for metal roofs. This is why they are more expensive. Re: Colorbond roof 19Apr 18, 2019 11:11 am Buildingindoreen I heard back from our builder today. It’s going o be an extra $4k to have the flat tiles as opposed to the curved in order to meet our estate’s design guidelines. Still prefer this to $8k for Colorbond! Our builder is charging us $5 per sqm to upgrade to bristille classic similar to this. I think it will cost us around $2k in total. He wanted to charge me 1.8k more for std concrete tiles in lieu of bluescope colorbond. But mine is a small builder. My suspicion is volume builder must get crazy large rebate to use concrete tiles. Hence they promote tiles and when customers want colorbond they mark it up.
