Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Colorbond roof 8Apr 17, 2019 9:02 am darb74 If you PM I can give you the roofing companies name that did our house. If you are west of Melb I would imagine they would cover that area too. That would be great thanks! We’re building in the North, in Doreen. I’d be interested in chatting with them though to see if it would be an area they cover. Re: Colorbond roof 9Apr 17, 2019 1:31 pm Good thing I came across this thread. During our sales consultation, we were quoted $20k for the colourbond roof. We are building 50sq double storey. Due to the big jump on price we have omitted this from our sales quote. I'll definitely bring this up in our studio selections and hopefully the price difference isn't huge. Re: Colorbond roof 10Apr 17, 2019 1:37 pm basicbeans Good thing I came across this thread. Re: Colorbond roof 12Apr 17, 2019 9:15 pm MyFirst From my build experience. There is no way colorbond is dearer than tiles if u list out the actual work been require for each. But somehow some builders make it an upgrade item. I love the look of tiles and I find it more pleasing and classy. In our next build, we are thinking to have colorbond due to feedback from others that it's more sealed and not prone to cracking and less maintenance. I could be wrong as I have nothing to compare since our current home is made of concrete tiles. It will depend on the cost in the end though as I'm not going to ahead with colorbond if the price difference is huge. Re: Colorbond roof 13Apr 17, 2019 10:12 pm Problem is u feel like concrete tiles belongs to old ways of building. Why on earth u would want to put 7 ton of concrete on your roof. And when it rains it absorp water. Has lots of gaps in between the overlaps esp for terracotta tiles Re: Colorbond roof 14Apr 17, 2019 11:24 pm I heard back from our builder today. It’s going o be an extra $4k to have the flat tiles as opposed to the curved in order to meet our estate’s design guidelines. Still prefer this to $8k for Colorbond! Re: Colorbond roof 15Apr 18, 2019 9:03 am Did you ask where the extra costs came from for the Colorbond? I'm intrigued to know - I thought Colorbond costing more than tiles was only a project-builder thing! [don't ask the builder why BlueScope can't spell colour, that might make them grumpy ] Part of the reason that any sheet metal roof is more expensive ( colorbond, trimdeck, klip lok etc) is that you need to put an Anticon blanket underneath it for insulation and condensation. With tiles you use a cheapish sarking. Also the flashing is more complicated and has to be custom cut and installation takes longer than lead flashing used on tile roofs So yes sheet metal roofs generally cost a bit more Simeon McGovern Affordable Custom Homes, We design and build to your budget Ashington Homes www.ashingtonhomes.com.au Re: Colorbond roof 18Apr 18, 2019 10:03 am MyFirst From my build experience. A lot more tie-down is required for metal roofs. This is why they are more expensive. Re: Colorbond roof 19Apr 18, 2019 10:11 am Buildingindoreen I heard back from our builder today. Our builder is charging us $5 per sqm to upgrade to bristille classic similar to this. I think it will cost us around $2k in total. He wanted to charge me 1.8k more for std concrete tiles in lieu of bluescope colorbond. But mine is a small builder. My suspicion is volume builder must get crazy large rebate to use concrete tiles. Hence they promote tiles and when customers want colorbond they mark it up. Your house roof does not show rusting other than some surface rust on the flashings. In my opinion you dont need to replace or paint the roof other than treat surface rust… 1 10363 You should pressure clean your roof first and make sure the paint you buy also is anti mould. 4 19498 Hi all, Our boundary perimeter fences need replacing (3 sides). From everyone's experience, what would you install? Timber lapped and capped OR colorbond? Thank you. 0 3005 |
