I work in flooring - do you have a flooring question?

Hi Michelle, we're building our first and hopefully forever home.

We decided to do flooring after handover as the upgrade is cheaper when done directly with the supplier. We're set on using waterproof laminates throughout a 4-bedroom single storey. Question is, what floor prep may be required and is this common? We've been quoted supply and install of laminates, but excluding floor prep.

Hi there, with a brand new home and brand new slab, you should require no floor prep at all with laminates.

Just following up on the Pryzm hybrid flooring by Armstrong Flooring. Went and seen a couple that had been laid. We will not be going that way. If you lock your house up for a couple of weeks and go on holidays, the flooring will warp and the joins will bow and move. That's what I seen anyway, the owners of the houses said they wont be recommending it either.

I have been told there's a version 2 coming soon though that's better suited to Australian conditions..

For the carpet, do you know how good is tuftmaster Angelia?
It is supposedly a 6 star residential rating. Also if you have any idea how would you compare it to Eternity Rosewell at choices?

Edit: Thinking about the "Royale" series. It's not native, but it's 14mm with 3mm Veneer and about $3500 more than Laminate for my house.

LOVE the oaks!! Stunning floors. Have sold them to quite a few customers, and put the Royal range into a clients home in Sydney. So far, no complaints. The Oaks have so much going for them including the fact that they hide a lot if you choose the right colour. I'd choose Oak timber over Laminate any day!

We have selected evo spc silver oak.
Now Got confused between hybrid and vinyl.
With hybrid we were advised floor preparation will be required for existing tiled home which will add to cost but not for spc plank.
Moreover one branded store was offering $49.50 / per sqm for hybrid and another local installer quoted $60:sqm for spc luxury plank.i used to think hybrid is more expensive than spc plank per sqm.now confused with quotations well.
Any insight for floor preparation requirements and which floor is generally more economical and scratch resistant.

The standard offering from most builders is tiles to wet areas. This will get you tiles to shower area (not till ceiling) and tiles near the wash basin etc.
Please ensure that your request of floor to ceiling tiles is correctly understood by builder. I assume what you want is tiles on ALL walls in the bathroom - from floor to ceiling. This is the best upgrade you should go for.
IMO the price of $4900 is good price...I recall paying $1200 per bathrrom.

You need to speak to a tiler/tile supplier, I sell carpets, timbers, laminates, vinyl, bamboo.....
We stopped selling tiles at Christmas.

Did I not answer this same question elsewhere?

Everyone needs to be aware, Hybrids are vinyls, only they are in a clip system.
All vinyls will scratch if treated badly.
I don't like to get involved with what shop said what.... but unless your tiled floor is in very bad condition, you should not need prep with the Hybrids. Again, this comes back to the store, get a second quote.

I have some small DIY home project and need a proper tool to drill holes in a porcelain tile. not a builder, go speak to your hardware man he will point you in the right direction for the right drill bit.
I have drill bits for every surface.
