Re: Our new home construction journey with "Better Built Hom 32Mar 25, 2019 10:20 am Hi All, Another exciting week has just flown by. In our last visit, we found that:
The one thing that we kind of feel bad about is the tile coverage in the bathrooms - we could have allowed for additional tiling to cover more areas. But what's done is done. (Maybe we can get bathroom glass splashbacks added later?) Otherwise super happy with our selection of colours and internal fittings. My wife is especially happy with the finishing of the cupboards and drawers. Some photos now. Flooring would be done post handover. Just wondering when would the final completion countdown start - no word from BBH yet. Their last update mentioned that the portable toilet will be removed soon - is that a faint bit of hint? I am sure we are tracking ahead of schedule (per contract). Must say that despite inclement weather, there has been something or the other constantly happening on site. Better Built Homes have always (pleasantly) surprised us with their work. Great combination on colours. Must be exciting to see the progress. Re: Our new home construction journey with "Better Built Hom 34Apr 15, 2019 1:43 pm Hi All, Its been a long wait, but we have finally reached the pointy end. We will be having a pre-handover walkthrough this week, and the actual handover in another 3 weeks' time! House cleaning is happening now, and driveway is scheduled to be poured by this week as well. We are really excited about the next few days Re: Our new home construction journey with "Better Built Hom 35Apr 15, 2019 10:17 pm Without wanting to rehash the old wall wrap question completely, I’m wondering how do they effectively install wall insulation without it? We just had all wall insulation done (took the guy 3 full days to do external and all internals) and without wrap it would have just fallen against the bricks. For the cost of wrap it makes no sense to me why any builder would not use it. If I were you i would pulling some power point covers off and checking ceiling as well for a full check of insulation. You stated how quick the plaster was hung, so wondering who put the insulation into the walls? Surely the plasterers aren’t responsible for it? --------------------------------------------------------------------- Check our Homeone build blog here Re: Our new home construction journey with "Better Built Hom 36Apr 16, 2019 12:57 am As I mentioned previously, the main concern is not falling insulation (and eventually, it will fall out unless securely tied), but rather moisture ingress from the outside. There are multiple ways for the flashing to fail as well as for the outside moisture to get on studs and insulation. Building wrap has to be vapour permeable too, as otherwise it might cause even worse problem in the winter time (water vapour from the inside condensing on the studs and insulation as the vapour impermeable membrane is not allowing it to pass through). I am also building with Better Built. We commenced our build in August 2018 and we've just had our kitchen installed and now awaiting the bench top. Have you moved in and have you had any issues to date? Our site supervisor is Peter and he has been quite accommodating for us as we're also installing a pool just prior to driveway being laid which he was able to assist us with. Hi there, We received handover of our house on 3rd May. Post that we completed flooring through our own trades, and moved into the house last weekend. We are ticking off pending items one by one: installation of TV antenna, pendant lights, wardrobes, washing machine, fencing etc. NBN connection due next week. Excluding minor paint blemishes, so far the only issue we have found is a missing switch for one external light which is not a biggie. BBH will arrange an end of 90 day maintenance, so will sort it out then. A couple of external tiles had cracked as a result of driveway pour which BBH will sort out soon. Overall extremely happy with the end result. Any advice on how to ensure the kit home granny flat that im thinking of buying will get council approval.
