Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design Re: please recommend some plants for my new garden 3Feb 27, 2019 1:38 pm Nuri Hi Guys, I'm currently in the process of doing the landscaping for my backyard. Fairly basic design, a rectangle shape that is 9m long by 5.7m wide, with a 0.5m garden bed along the perimeter and turf in the centre. I'm sorted for turf, but not sure what plants to use in the garden bed. I'm after mainly green plants, something fairly low maintenance and ones that won't grow too big (fence is 1.8m high). Can anyone recommend some plants for me to look at? I'm in Melbourne. A good approach is to visit some LOCAL nursery and discuss with them your requirement and soil type. They will give you a good list of plants that will thrive in your patch of land. The soil type and topography changes often and thus a generic recommendation may not always fit your bill. Some plants are fancy/wow to have however you do not want to plant those to see them struggle to survive in your locale. m2c cheers. It's drought and shade tolerant, suits Melbourne climate and is non-invasive. It creates a great tall screening hedge but doesn't drop fruit like lily pilly. The flowers smell divine. 2 10247 Hi VK, Think it's worth investing time in an Owner Builder course to equip you with basic knowledge on Australian Building Industry and its regulations.
