Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design Re: please recommend some plants for my new garden 2Feb 27, 2019 1:09 pm Can I suggest you post some pictures of the yard? It's also a good idea to seek inspiration from other gardens in your area. Plants, trees and shrubs that do well in your climate/area remove any questionable species that would likely lead to disappointing results. Next you need to consider the light levels and direction of the sun dramatically affect the health and long term success of your choices. There are many species that develop good results in the 2-3 year span but often result in ongoing management such as pruning and trimming. Make your choices based on species used in your surroundings and even chat to others on your street as to what other soil treatments/ herbicides and maintenace they have done or continue to do for their gardens. The main issue is your land/location is vastly different to others on this forum so be mindful that you need to know what's special in your case. Thus your neighbours will provide crucial local knowledge. Re: please recommend some plants for my new garden 3Feb 27, 2019 2:38 pm Nuri Hi Guys, I'm currently in the process of doing the landscaping for my backyard. Fairly basic design, a rectangle shape that is 9m long by 5.7m wide, with a 0.5m garden bed along the perimeter and turf in the centre. I'm sorted for turf, but not sure what plants to use in the garden bed. I'm after mainly green plants, something fairly low maintenance and ones that won't grow too big (fence is 1.8m high). Can anyone recommend some plants for me to look at? I'm in Melbourne. A good approach is to visit some LOCAL nursery and discuss with them your requirement and soil type. They will give you a good list of plants that will thrive in your patch of land. The soil type and topography changes often and thus a generic recommendation may not always fit your bill. Some plants are fancy/wow to have however you do not want to plant those to see them struggle to survive in your locale. m2c cheers. It's drought and shade tolerant, suits Melbourne climate and is non-invasive. It creates a great tall screening hedge but doesn't drop fruit like lily pilly. The flowers smell divine. 2 7964 6 7974 Thank you so much for the effort. We will use it to talk with builder.
