Some of the costs were quite affordable and others were mindblowing ($2,600 to change the bathroom and ensuite mixers to the matte black version of the builder's standard tap range....). Some things are easy to change after the fact, like the face plates for Clipsal iconic GPO's etc and if the builder was going to charge a huge premium we would have done these ourselves afterwards, but overall their charges were mostly in line with our expectations. I think they charge just enough to make it worthwhile for the customer and still build a healthy profit margin into it for themselves, as the cost to actually change from one option to the next couldn't cost anywhere near what they actually charge.
