Has anyone been able to affordably source them post build? Is it as easy as buying online and fitting them? Or is it more of a stuff around trying to find particular sizing etc? Thanks Hi I work in door hardware sales 🙂 The sizing can be an issue, door handles are easy and fairly standard in fixings across the board but cabinet handles vary in their screw hole distances from style to style. If you are meticulous about it and measure the the centers when you pick them and make sure you can find a black handle with the same centers it might work out but it can be very tricky. I would just get the builder to do it, black is popular these days so the prices arent that much higher on the door furniture... not too sure on taps ect. though Re: Upgrading with builder Vs changing post build 9Feb 22, 2019 9:34 am alt Holliemilgate Hi, Looking for some advice, I am wanting to put Matte Black Door handles, Cupboard handles, taps and fixtures throughout my new home and was wondering if it's worth upgrading through our builder or changing over after the build is finished. Buy one or two now to doublecheck they are the identical size (distance between screw holes) as those provided by the builder. Re: Upgrading with builder Vs changing post build 10Feb 22, 2019 5:00 pm We upgraded all of our door hardware, taps, powerpoints etc to the black/charcoal option. Some of the costs were quite affordable and others were mindblowing ($2,600 to change the bathroom and ensuite mixers to the matte black version of the builder's standard tap range....). Some things are easy to change after the fact, like the face plates for Clipsal iconic GPO's etc and if the builder was going to charge a huge premium we would have done these ourselves afterwards, but overall their charges were mostly in line with our expectations. I think they charge just enough to make it worthwhile for the customer and still build a healthy profit margin into it for themselves, as the cost to actually change from one option to the next couldn't cost anywhere near what they actually charge. Re: Upgrading with builder Vs changing post build 11Feb 23, 2019 5:24 am Our builder is flexible- we are supplying gge and front door locks, kitchen tap, kitchen sink, pendants, facade lights and kitchen cabinet handles all for builder to install. Credits were supplied back to use for some of those things. Our last build, we supplied all tapware (uncle is a plumber so sourced at cost) and pendants for builder to install.
