People always want them to sit level however most upright cookers are meant to sit higher than the benchtop to minimise the potential for scorching of the top. The free standing cooker is the same height with the benchtop in many display homes. Professional installers can make them at the same level. You can google the prefect installation of free standing stove. My builder hire unprofessional and disqualified traders to do work because of low labour costs. It is not practical to home owners that the free standing cooker is higher with a big gap on both sides. Home owners are very difficult to clean up when food residues fall into the gaps from bencntop and cooktop. My builder said the gaps on both sides of the stove are for ventilation. It does not make sense to me at all. Builders always make excuses and won't bother to rectify. Re: Should the free standing cooker be higher than the bench 7Feb 12, 2019 10:09 pm Please read instruction manual, it’s 895mm wide, so there’s the gaps on the sides, it must sit 10mm higher the bench tops. Sorry, but display homes are for display purposes. It needs to be 10mm higher. I build kitchens so know what the requirements are from the manufacturers. That's the reason I'd never install an upright cooker in my own house. Definitely the right height and makes sense. Re: Should the free standing cooker be higher than the bench 14Feb 14, 2019 7:21 am Thanks for your response. You may be right but I really don't like the gaps on both sides of the stove. Very difficult to clean up the food residues when fell into the gaps. Re: Should the free standing cooker be higher than the bench 15Feb 14, 2019 10:03 pm You can't argue wrong with such a experienced installer who deals with thousands of kitchen installations over a lifetime, display homes are at times a home builders worst enemy with their in practical displays, so many unfortunate situations with most people thinking doing the display rounds is 99% of their homework when in fact it's barely doing anything as it's got almost no reality in what you can expect with trades, quality, service, communication, rectifications, actual building experience, it is the single biggest mistake most make, and since they have become so prominent so have poor builds. A simple yes would have sufficed rather than also adding the attempted derogatory remark at the end. Some people may have thought you knew what you were talking about. If being observant and knowing the difference between 10mm’s & 100mm’s, and taking the time to try and help others on a forum where I can, equates to having lots of time on my hands, then I have lots of time on my hands. 😂 Re: Should the free standing cooker be higher than the bench 18Feb 16, 2019 9:48 am westbourne Thanks for your response. Smaller ones probably cause even more headaches. Larger ones as least u can have some stick to get things out. Regardless a lesson to readers.
