Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Feb 05, 2019 11:48 am Hi there, Three weeks ago we moved into our new house. Before getting the keys we suspected that the builder was aware of problems/substandard work with our tiling, due to a few weeks delays to the overall build. After moving we, we have found dozens of places in all of our wet areas (two ensuites, main bathroom, and powder room), where the grout is crumbling away. In many places its as soft as chalk and can be pushed in with a finger nail. We also have some severe lippage in a couple of places too. Before going to the builder I want to understand: What went wrong? Is it defective grout, inexperienced tiler, poor mixing, etc What can I expect or ask them to do to rectify it? Am I reasonable in wanting them to totally remove ALL grout and re-do it? On every wall there is at least two places with problems. In some places, the grout is solid, but in another spot on the same wall its chalky. I want to avoid them just patching up the visible issues. I'm having trouble uploading a few sample photos but can try later today. Thanks Re: New house - Grout falling out 2May 30, 2019 11:30 am Hi, suffering with a similar issue in our bathroom after 15 months. I think re grouting services are quite cheap, its almost a do it yourself job but definitely something the builder should rectify. Re: New house - Grout falling out 4Feb 10, 2020 6:36 pm Marek Your right most likely a poor ratio mixture, Get some Grouters that only do grouting not tilers Hi Mark, thanks, quick update, builders are coming back to rectify. A shame really.... but we'll see what they come back and if they get the tilers to rectify it will have to be good! They pushed back a bit on paying a grout pro to do it for $700 which is a shame, but we'll see Hi everyone, Have just put a shower in the laundry and after only using it 2-3 times have noticed staining on the grout. The tiles were glued onto a concrete wall after… 0 5453 Thanks splashers, that makes sense. The waterproofing guy used this Davco product, I will raise the issue with builder and hopefully get resolved with him - if not… 2 12898 4 14311 |
