Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Footing cost increase while digging 2Jan 26, 2019 11:37 am Hi Ginzsidhu, I work for a builder in WA and not sure if it's the same in South Australia but it would be similar, hard digging is always an additional cost, it's an unknown factor until you actually dig, you don't want to inflate the cost maybe your builder should of put a Provisional Sum in the contract for it, but they haven't, unfortunately it's an additional cost that you have to pay Re: Footing cost increase while digging 3Jan 26, 2019 11:57 am Hi, We are building with Fairmont as well, but we had specified extra 28k as contingency sum in the contract for such reasons. However, the builder should have provided you with a copy of the soil report. Talk to the bank to incorporate some contingency sum included if you havr not maxed out your borrowing capacity. Cheers & good luck Hi thx for reply Yes the initial contingency amount was 30k but after soil reports it went up to 35k... but now again when they started digging , they said extra cost will incur because of clay soil. I dont understand why d cost increase after soil reports and on first day of digging letting me know. Second when i ask how much extra they telling me will tell me in 10 weeks time the total cost.!! π Re: Footing cost increase while digging 5Jan 26, 2019 12:20 pm You have not clearly been given a accurate answer according to the law, yes plenty get charged more, but I would ask building expert or go to his Web site, they have a service over the Internet, you might find your original price stands.
