Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 Jan 05, 2018 10:08 pm So we bought our 2 bedroom something home early in 2015 knowing one day we would need to extend her, now that our first little girl is here and realising we will quickly be running out of space the time has come where we are going to extend. I always wanted to owner build and have the satisfaction of living in a place that I helped build. So the process has started, we have just submitted our plans to Subiaco council for DA approval after a few months of meeting with our architect who was amazing at helping us come up with a design that met all our needs and wants. The plans are to keep most of the original house and extend out the back with a new laundry, kitchen and family room. We are also building into the roof adding 2 bedrooms and a bathroom. Re: extending our 1930s something. 2Jan 05, 2018 10:57 pm Seen is the original house with the rear patio converted into a 3rd bedroom, laundry/second bathroom. The patio at the back I built a year ago before i had really thought about how i was going to extend, we have managed to incorporate it into the design so it didn't go to waste. I spent a few months getting quotes and working out trades and suppliers I'm happy to work with. I figured planning all that out at the start will help me build with as little headaches as possible. Even with all the planning it can be hard to lock down trades for dates as they are eaten up by the builders they work with on a regular basis.
