I can also tell you that many are not and if there's an issue good luck getting it rectified now or in years to come. I was simply calling out alex's comment that most Australian sold kitchens are from China. Most are still custom manufactured by local cabinet makers, and I can promise you the more high end the house the less likely hood there is that it will come out of China because local designers will be working with their clients to achieve something that has to be site measured and custom built to accommodate the non standard types of construction used in high end houses. Basically it will be unique not something that is coming out of a mass production factory. If you buy a kitchen from any of the big box stores as well as some smaller importers you are obviously buying a kitchen out of China but overall most people still like to speak to a local supplier who uses locally supplied products and that importantly can provide after sale service if it's ever required. I have nothing against an imported product but having worked in this industry I've had the calls from people who end up with kitchens that don't meet expectations and are left trying to make good with poorly designed and made products and zero after sales service. Of course the other aspect is the fact that when you buy a kitchen from a local manufacturer the money stays here to help the rest of the community and the people we employ also benefit "the battlers and punters" that some like to mention. I'm sure some would import their entire house from overseas if they could just to save a $, but where would that leave the economy. But when it gets to 200%-300% (sometimes even 500%!) price difference for the product made from the similar materials and oftentimes featuring subpar workmanship, the questions start appearing. Fair competition is one of the main pillars of the economy. E.g. what margins (range) do you reckon most of the prominent cabinet makers will be working off locally? With regards to mass production factories -> most of them do not do any mass production and all custom. The process looks like: The measurements are done onsite -> translated into accurate 3D models and renders -> manufactured to mm precision -> installed by experienced installers. The only is that it takes roughly 2.5 months from the day the measurements are made to the day the kitchen is installed. Certainly not for everyone. Another problem is that a significant portion of local businesses have right attitude and professionalism to execute the orders and deliver ultimate customer experience. Chinese are so much better in that. Something which needs to be fostered. Just my 2 cents. Re: How to buy kitchen cabinets from China? 13Dec 10, 2018 9:50 pm alexp79 Go to Alibaba, search for the suppliers with Gold status, at least $5M in revenue and at least 3 years on the market, with Oceania in Top 3 markets. Ask them to send you some photos and later material samples. Ask them what options they have, etc. In most cases they can provide you some details of the previous customers, so you can give them a call or even come up and see yourself. I found that most of them are very competitive and therefore IT IS really hard to run into a company with a poor quality those days. Always go for Blum hardware (DTC is okay, but Blum is best) and at least 18 mm+ particle boards carcasses instead of HMR. You most definitely want to use HMR (high moisture resistance) particle board. 16mm thickness is more than adequate. BWP grade plywood will be certainly preferred over HMR with its questionable chemicals they use to make particle boards moisture resistant. Both contain formaldehyde Yes, and MDF too. But formaldehyde emissions are easy to measure, most of the suppliers provide E0 or E1 certificates at request. You can really use anything you want the main consideration would be how it looks once painted/finished - or the look you want. Cabinetmakers use MDF because its cheap… 2 9962 Thanks mate. Yeah good points! Leaning towards Option 3 to get a bit extra space in the cabinets but not going too crazy high (and expensive). Would require a mini… 13 39742 Looking at some of the designs on websites, they are all selling very similar products. I get that you want something stylish. It's worth looking for search terms like SaveH2O… 2 7008 |
