Basically any screw up or delay by anyone is on you effectively, Rawson can even screw up and then cancel the contract if you're not happy with it *yey* The only thing I managed to get varied in the contract was the progress payments to move 5% from the slab to the frame because our bank said otherwise it was too front loaded and they wouldn't accept it. Did you request & manage to get any changes made to your contract? Hi mate. Yes got the contract reviewed by a solicitor who made several recommendations which we put to them but they just refused to budge and kept sighting it as a “standard” HIA contract. 😳 We didn’t push any of the payment schedules because we didn’t think they would budge. I wish we did now as part of our build we are still using cash and not dipping into our mortgage, so the less we pay up front the better, but alas. 😔😁 KDR - Rawson Chifley 42 mark ii in Newcastle. 68Oct 28, 2018 9:29 pm luxbuild Yeah, its hardly even the standard HIA contract when they add 23 special conditions on to it (26 if you break out the sub items) We actually walked away before signing it but lost a big chunk of change in the process. So many special conditions. Good luck with your build I hope it goes smoothly. We actually walked away before signing it but lost a big chunk of change in the process. So many special conditions. Good luck with your build I hope it goes smoothly. Thanks Melos. Yeah they have you over a barrel and they know it. Unfortunately there is a knock down rebuild boom here in Newcastle it seems and Rawson have plenty of work on, so they can probably afford for us to walk. On top of that we have a block that a lot won’t touch so we had nothing to back us up. Fingers crossed we don’t get burned. Good luck with yours as well. Which home are you building? After walking away from the other builder before signing the contract we started over again from scratch. We are 6 month into our build we are really happy with how it is going. Gyprock is in and they are painting the render this week. Finished tomorrow and actually excited now. As we thought we will need more retaining than Rawson said we would need and they won’t let us do the walls without stopping the build and putting us at the back of the cue which is rubbish considering how much down time there will be. Looks massive doesn’t it. 😁 it’s 607. The footprint looks huge when you are standing on it. 😁 Re: KDR - Rawson Chifley 42 mark ii in Newcastle. 75Nov 07, 2018 5:37 pm Re: KDR - Rawson Chifley 42 mark ii in Newcastle. 77Nov 07, 2018 5:46 pm DR-JEKL Nice to see Rawsons putting in work!! Haha yeah your block looks massive!!! Still zero communication. It would be nice to get an email, sms something to say, hopefully this or that will be happening this week. Luckily we live close by to be able to drive past like mad stalkers 🤪😂😂 Re: KDR - Rawson Chifley 42 mark ii in Newcastle. 78Nov 08, 2018 7:27 am Hey with all that contracty stuff from a couple of weeks back, don't forget that Australian consumer law does protect you from contract clauses that aren't fair; it's not just "bad luck you signed a contract" if the contract itself is unreasonable and the company you've signed with takes advantage of having railroaded you into signing it. Obviously the company needs some protection from ignorant or whiny or time-wasting customers as well, but as a reasonable customer you're not totally & utterly under the builder's control. Salfield, you'll only be contacted if they need to ask something & when major stages are completed … I agree it'd be nice to get more detailed info, but the site supervisor & whoever's playing a massive game of Tetris with the tradies are generally busy enough (plus you probably don't want to know how many times someone might have been called back after something was theoretically "finished" ). Yeah mate. I agree with all that. I’ve spoken with people who have had our site supervisor before us and they said he was quite good with his communication, so I was hoping for similar. I appreciate he is busy but as they say, under promise and over deliver. He has told me a couple of times now he would let me know about a few things that were up coming but we heard nothing. Good to know about the contract laws. Cheers Simon Re: KDR - Rawson Chifley 42 mark ii in Newcastle. 80Nov 13, 2018 4:29 pm Things are going swimmingly at the moment pending the Xmas shut down. The concrete blokes are great guys and said things always slow down around the time the house starts to look like a real home. Oh well. Just happy for things to be happening. We have been plastic wrapped and pods are on site. Bring on the slab.
