According to this article, since 2002 builders have been exempt from taking out home warranty insurance on apartment blocks taller than three storeys. This has meant that people owning apartments in towers that have been found to be covered in combustible cladding are now having to foot their own repairs after their builder went into voluntary administration. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-09-08/r ... g/10214570 Re: Home warranty insurance and apartments 2Sep 08, 2018 11:08 am Matthew Guy was the Planning Minister at the time. Would he have had responsibility for that decision? If so, he can add it to his portfolio which includes setting up the VBA as a toothless tiger, the Phillip Island rezoning fiasco and several other eyebrow raising decisions. 3in1 Supadiverta. Re: Home warranty insurance and apartments 3Sep 08, 2018 11:40 am Wasn't Mary Delahunty Planning Minister in 2002? See https://www.theage.com.au/national/vict ... 13a1i.html A star recruit to the Labor Party in 1998, Ms Delahunty's career was marked by several high-profile bungles. In 2005 the former education minister was confined to the portfolios of arts and women's affairs after criticism of her handling of planning. Personally I'd love to blame Matthew Guy but in this case.... Re: Home warranty insurance and apartments 4Sep 08, 2018 1:16 pm 2002? Oops! I misread the article. I was thinking 2012. My bad. Did you notice in the article where Hickory claims that because the cladding was installed as per "common practices" at the time and because all works had been "signed off as compliant both before and after they were built". they've done nothing wrong in relation to cladding? How can one even begin to comment on such idiocy? 3in1 Supadiverta. Rainwater Harvesting Best Practice using syphonic drainage. Cleaner Neater Smarter Cheaper Supa Gutter Pumper. Unfortunately the owners don't seem to be able to use the same excuse. It was compliant when they bought into the building. Why do they have to do anything about it? Re: Home warranty insurance and apartments 6Sep 08, 2018 1:44 pm But it wasn't a compliant product. Just because it was passed as compliant doesn't make it compliant. The same goes for installing a non compliant product by playing follow the leader ("common practices"). That happens all the time and as an endemic example, just look at the hundreds of thousands of new Victorian homes that have been installed with non compliant roof stormwater drainage over the years and then self certified by the plumber as being compliant. Some less common but serious dangerous examples include non compliant gas pipes and electrical wiring (Infinity Cables) that are now reaching a critical time period for failure and fires. 3in1 Supadiverta.
