My personal standard for brickwork with rendering is not to have large chunks of gaps randomly filled by waste bricks. curly joint lines or odd colors are all acceptable but this is beyond reasonable ... As long as the walls are straight and the bricks sit neatly on the brick lip I don’t think you will have a problem. The brickies were faultless in their work with the gave bricks, but they just chucked the common bricks up knowing they'd be rendered. Same brickies, obviously saving time where they know the look won't matter (or they were giving their apprentice some practice?). I don't have pics of the lame common bricks but it looks fine now it's rendered. Hope that helps tribe7, do you mind sharing what brick are you using? With that sort of soil type if you ask for a design to include piers then I would also include void formers.
