Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Smart lock with door handle for entry door 3May 07, 2018 6:35 pm We are currently building and having the builder install a standard entry handle with a separate dead lock for our front door. After hand over we are going to replace the dead bolt with an August lock. Re: Smart lock with door handle for entry door 4May 07, 2018 6:44 pm megg We are in the process of updating our entry door and I would like a keyless door lock with a handle. Does anyone have any suggestions? Why do you want a handle? I presume you meant a passage handle with a latch. Re: Smart lock with door handle for entry door 5May 07, 2018 7:51 pm We’re also looking for a smart lock to replace the existing lock after handover. However we had opted for vertical bar handles on both sides of the doors so we may have some problems fitting any smart lock under the bars as the inside facing part of smart locks are usually quite thick Metricon Liberty 45, Ryde NSW http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=82846 Build thread: Metricon Liberty 45 in Ryde, NSW Re: Smart lock with door handle for entry door 6May 07, 2018 8:21 pm Quirmeball1280 We’re also looking for a smart lock to replace the existing lock after handover. How would you access the keyhole or keypad under the handle anyway? If we change to a smart lock, the back part is likely to be thicker and harder to use under the bar Metricon Liberty 45, Ryde NSW http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=82846 Build thread: Metricon Liberty 45 in Ryde, NSW Re: Smart lock with door handle for entry door 8May 08, 2018 8:48 am I've been wondering about this, and am currently awaiting for the tender to come back from our rawson build but was thinking it would be cheaper to DIY after handover like you guys have mentioned. With some of the larger doors on the markets a vertical bar would probably be handy, and ensuring the correct style of handle is used by the builder would need to be preplanned so the new smartlock handle can be installed. Hopefully someone can post up their feedback on doing this Re: Smart lock with door handle for entry door 9May 08, 2018 10:27 am Inside and outside views of our "big door" with a smart lock fitted. No bar handles required, although I admit that the handle is unusual and was chosen predominantly to match the Satin Nickel finish of the smart lock, which is a colour favoured in the US where this lock originates. Also, we have no latch, but use roller bolts instead, because a latch for us defeats the purpose of easy access afforded by the smart lock. For us this was the best smart lock available because: it is built as such from the ground up (most others as designed to be retrofitted to existing locks), and offers access through a tradition key, keypad and smart phone/watch via Apple HomeKit. We are android users, so Apple software is not something we would use. I am looking at either the Gainsborourgh https://www.bunnings.com.au/gainsboroug ... t_p0012718 or the Samsung https://www.bunnings.com.au/gainsboroug ... t_p0012718 or the Lockwood https://www.lockweb.com.au/en/site/lock ... door-lock/ I don't want to have a separate deadbolt lock. I think the lever action is the easiest to open and close. Smart lock with door handle for entry door 11May 08, 2018 1:43 pm megg Love the look of your door handle arcadelt. The other two are digital locks, but I would not call them fully "smart" since they have no connection to your phone or the internet, so no remote advice or management. Of course, that might be exactly what you are after. Most smart locks are deadlocks, so you don’t need a seperate deadlock unless you want the door to be secure from the inside too. No doubt, lever is easy but not as easy as just pushing the door open. Re: Smart lock with door handle for entry door 14May 08, 2018 6:54 pm How does the roller hold up in windy weather? Is there any chance of it blowing open on its own? Also where do you buy these Re: Smart lock with door handle for entry door 15May 08, 2018 8:34 pm Thanks Arcadelt, that’s actually the lock we are thinking of getting (in black) Metricon Liberty 45, Ryde NSW http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=82846 Build thread: Metricon Liberty 45 in Ryde, NSW Re: Smart lock with door handle for entry door 17May 09, 2018 8:13 am arcadelt Quirmeball1280 Thanks Arcadelt, that’s actually the lock we are thinking of getting (in black) We have a black one on our laundry door. You can access both with the Schlage IOS app, just by swiping to move from lock to lock. Where did you buy it from, as when I googled them, the companies in Aus are quite obscure. Also where did you buy your door handle? do they have other types as well? Re: Smart lock with door handle for entry door 20May 09, 2018 12:50 pm Oh and I forgot to mention in my research I found out there is a WiFi adapter, which means anyone with either an iPhone or android can remotely view, open or lock the door.
