Seems like we'll be pretty close together in build stages Barbie Dream House - First Build in Port Stephens 83Apr 18, 2018 8:56 pm Great to see so much happening . Damn the rubbish bin, least you have one mine is well I don’t know it’s MIA. What a bonus with the insulation, you got it for one reason and it will serve dual purposes. We beefed up all of ours too but due to heat. A vast majority of our summer days are high 30s to mid 40s What kind of fire place are you looking at? Re: Barbie Dream House - First Build in Port Stephens 84Apr 19, 2018 11:02 am I'm hoping the insulation plus blockout curtains will get us through summer, we don't have kids yet so I'd like to hold off putting aircon in all the bedrooms until we really really need it. I'd rather invest in landscaping so our lovely house isn't just sitting in a dustbowl for a year. I love the look of this fireplace with its skinny legs: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ To go here, maybe: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ ~ Emma Re: Barbie Dream House - First Build in Port Stephens 85Apr 19, 2018 11:09 am If the bedrooms aren’t being used in summer then I agree aircon them when you need it. Exciting that a family is on the horizon for you guys one day. The dust, oh god it’s awful the second you open that front door it blows inside everywhere, landscaping is a huge priority for us too, we have moved the pool install to August now and need to start planning what we are going to do . Wow that fire place is so cool I love it Re: Barbie Dream House - First Build in Port Stephens 86Apr 20, 2018 6:42 am My MIL is itching for grandkids from us but they need somewhere to live first. I grew up in a rental and have always wanted to own a home but never imagined I'd be able to build The dust will be a real concern with light floor tiles, hopefully over the coming weeks I can finalise a landscaping plan and look at purchasing tubestock plants to fatten up ready for planting. The fireplace comes from Bunnings, I saw an install on Better Homes & Gardens and I really love it! https://www.bunnings.com.au/scandia-edg ... r_p3171226 ~ Emma Barbie Dream House - First Build in Port Stephens 87Apr 24, 2018 11:04 am Hey Emma, Ohh that’s sweet your MIL wants grandbabies, the fact she wants to help is huge bonus. We have 5 kiddies the youngest is 3 and eldest is 12 and we have no help, some days I think it would be awesome to have a extra pair of hands. Mmm the dust is a pain in the butt, that’s a good Idea to start buying now, all my plants I’ve got have been mangled by the pups . I’m trying to salvage them which is proving a challenge. The fire place is awesome, it might be worth asking your builder to install fire check sheets to the wall area surrounding the fireplace. Normal gyprock isn’t complaint so it might be a good idea to get them to install it from the start?? Re: Barbie Dream House - First Build in Port Stephens 88Apr 24, 2018 8:12 pm Ooh progress its great! i love that the fireplace is not your normal looking one. Hopefully we'll have enough money left to start a good chunk of our landscaping Re: Barbie Dream House - First Build in Port Stephens 89Apr 25, 2018 7:11 am Oooh Tribe I didn't know about fire-rated gyprock, I'll have to look into that... Rethinking the fireplace a bit, I think a firepit outside might get more use one day. Marz I know what you mean, I don't think I anticipated the costs involved with landscaping a quarter acre - I'm just thankful it's flat flat flat. Headed back to the block today to see if there's been any progress (no change that I could see between last Wednesday and Sunday). We've just had two days of sunshine so I'm hopeful that means a box ready for a slab?! ~ Emma Re: Barbie Dream House - First Build in Port Stephens 91Apr 25, 2018 3:27 pm Nice, cant wait to see some photos Re: Barbie Dream House - First Build in Port Stephens 92Apr 25, 2018 6:32 pm Lot126 The boxing up was happening earlier this morning and there was a giant pile of waffle pods all ready to go! Hopefully on Sunday there will be a slab to look at. Ohhh cool that’s exciting, bring on slab day looking forward to seeing your pics. Good point about the fire place inside too, an external fire pit has a lot character to it, we are putting one and had one at our previous house and used it heaps. They can be landscaped into the garden to look amazing. Re: Barbie Dream House - First Build in Port Stephens 93Apr 25, 2018 6:33 pm A fire pit is high on our list too, as I miss the open fire place we had at our old place. Come on sunshine!! ☀️ ~ Emma Re: Barbie Dream House - First Build in Port Stephens 100Apr 29, 2018 2:50 pm All set for my next muddy site visit, sadly hubs' feet don't fit into anything cute from the kids section so he gets boring black wellies the next time we visit Bunnings.
