Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Tiled roof or Colorbond !? 14Mar 23, 2018 1:20 pm algernon For what it's worth, we chose Colorbond over tiles (paying extra to upgrade), specifically for Colorbond's advantages over tiles in energy efficiency, water resistance, pest-proofing, hail (and general impact) resilience, fire safety, and lower long-term maintenance costs. Those might be all issues to look at when doing your research. I personally also prefer the look of Colorbond and like the sound of rain falling on it, but those two considerations are purely subjective and other people will have different opinions. My partner and I think you are the best answer we heard for choosing colorbond. I forgot about that! We had friends who were broken into twice via lifting off roof tiles, and that was another factor in our decision to go Colorbond. Tiled roof or Colorbond !? 18Mar 23, 2018 8:45 pm I love colourbond roofing. We have it on our existing house. And the house we are now building which is in my sig. Colourbond takes longer to age then the tiled roof. Looks better in the long run. And looks neater. Even when I look at the houses in my street. It really stands out. And still looks better then tilted. Same - I love this, my parents have a tin roof and I used to love hearing the rain as a kid Re: Tiled roof or Colorbond !? 20Mar 23, 2018 11:45 pm The best part of building is being able to chose what suits you and your lifestyle. I like the look of tiles and the 30db noise reduction they offer especially as your roof and glazing allow outside noise to travel into your home. I love hearing rain in my garden however not on a tin roof or the neighbours, hence why we upgraded our glazing to 6mm. Lifespan - Clay roof tiles will last over 100 years, Bristile have lifetime colour guarantee plus 50 or 100 year warranty depending on the style, are low maintance, energy efficent and recyclable. Up to 95% of break-ins are through doors and windows, if they want to break in they will smash a window or the pane of glass next to your sliding door. Should you need remedial or additional electrical work inside a double brick wall cavity it is much easier to lift a few tiles. Building a house requires research and choosing what suits you, idealy before you sign up to a builder.
Good luck with your build. No, I even have sections of narrowness where the tiles won't slide up any further.
