These crotons are now three times bigger and same size as the one from Flower Power. Oh man $48.00 for a pot at Flower Power. Very expensive. So decide on what you will be planting in your future garden, Start collecting small size pot plants. By the time the house finish the small plant will be bigger and ready for planting. You will save BIG $$. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Question time ...please help. Hubby just wants to put 10cm top soil on before lawn .... which I rejected as the ground is extremely very hard so I do need to loosen the ground before top soil goes on top. I'm not trying to make myself harder....I really think I should remove about 10 cm of contaminated top layer. What are your thoughts? Thanks in advance. Then I would punch holes in it and work it a bit as man i hated our backyard getting so cloggy! Also with the exception that 10cm is enough to level and gently fall it. For garden beds though nope not suitable, but you already knew that . I wouldn't necessarily remove soil, just remove rocks, glass, metal and rubble as you find it. Work though gypsum, horse poo, garden soil, into the existing dirt. Re: Landscape design - KDR (sekisui house ) Burbank - ST Geo 125Apr 05, 2018 3:52 pm Personally the grass will cope with the top 10cm in underlay so long as you try and spread some conditioner on the surface prior to covering. I used several bags of active8 which really worked a treat. For the garden beds I dug( actually jack hammered the clay twice the size and depth) for the lilly Pilly's and just mulched about 200mm which really softened the surrounding clay. Any organic topping will encourage moisture for fauna to colonize the ground and mix / open the clay. I followed a principle that fu/ garden whisperer shares on this community with great success. To excavate and remove 100mm of perfectly recoverable soil only to replace with questionable garden mix would be expensive and wasteful. I strongly recommend watching a documentary back to Eden. Sustainable principles in practical terms. https://vimeo.com/28055108 Re: Landscape design - KDR (sekisui house ) Burbank - ST Geo 126Apr 05, 2018 6:51 pm SteveMc Personally the grass will cope with the top 10cm in underlay so long as you try and spread some conditioner on the surface prior to covering. After long research there are two solution suited for the side of the house and my budget. 1. For the side next to the house along the fence.... I'm thinking... H steel post with H4 treated pine. I got to get more written quotes!! Driveway, flooring, fence and retaining wall. Got some timber retaining wall quotes for sloping ground at the back. OMG just simple timber retaining wall. Nothing fancy just 30 metres long ...One guy didn't even take any measurement and verbally $10,000 to do retaining wall !! two more quotes to come tomorrow. I should have become cat_dunc's apprentice... so I can do my own retaining wall. How much were the quotes? Re: Landscape design - KDR (sekisui house ) Burbank - ST Geo 138Apr 19, 2018 8:37 pm haha retaining walls cost a BOMB. Its insane, but oh man its time consuming so thats probably why. I reckon you can do it Shazaw!! Get your sons into the yard How many m2 is your concreting? Has anyone worked it out? I could probably scale it in CAD for you if you needed to know. Its great you're doing a footpath. Man i wish we had one! Even if it goes nowhere as no one else has one I LOVE that wholesale plant place. I just ordered a plant price list Re: Landscape design - KDR (sekisui house ) Burbank - ST Geo 139Apr 19, 2018 10:07 pm ehhc Yeah?? How much were the quotes? The first quote was $10000. The second quote $12500 The third quote $23500 Prices for just timber retaining wall, majority of cost goes toward labour. In my initial cost of building, I have not budgeted $$$ into landscaping. Assuming I can do landscaping easily (well that was 2011 when we got this land) I have not consider my age at all...most likely I was feeling under 40 years olds at that time. Now that we are in year of 2018 and I do feels the aging process Oh my ... every digit that's added on to 50 feels like extra 5 years added on. My knees are not in good shape, can't run, can't walk fast, can't carry heavy staff... so not quite sure how I will manage to do digging and moving soil. Slow and steady is my current motto. So to anyone thinking of building please do consider the high cost of landscaping. My retaining wall plans are simple ... very tempting to do DIY. I'm very seriously thinking to do retaining wall for the back fence myself ( doesn't matter how long its take to do it just have to follow my motto - slow and steady ) let's see how I go.
