Paving - uneven slab

Hi Homeone,

I am thinking of paving around my house (using 400x400 pavers). The house is newly built and there is currently just dirt around the house. In some sections, I can see the slab and the slab itself is quite uneven on the side (some sections stick out more than others, bumps here and there, etc.). I envisage that it will be very difficult to butt the pavers up against the slab due to the large number of sections of the slab that poke outwards.

Instead, I am contemplating leaving a gap between the slab and the start of the pavers - but I'm not sure what I should fill this with. I can only think of paving sand but worried this is either not right or unsightly due you the contrast in colours and the width of sand.

Has anyone got any ideas or suggestions for filing the gap between the slab and pavers?

Your slab should have straight line edges but if there are concrete bulges you will be better off having them chiseled off.

My builder did my concrete apron and just concreted up and over the slab edge by 75mm so now I have compliance issues. Make sure your concreter does not do this if you decide not to leave a gap and make usre you have the correct slope away from the house.

Thanks building- expert. Unfortunately the slab isn't all straight lines.. there are done concrete bulges and also what looks to be excess brick mortar. I suspect the concrete bulges will be quite difficult to chisel off..
