If you are truly worried about warmth/softness for the baby/toddler and resistance to scratching I would suggest vinyl. It’s not the product of the 1970s, and is available in decorative squares and even "planks". It can also be lifted later to allow timber or tiles to be laid when you are ready. Vinyl is the way to go. Kids will drop things etc. Bamboo and timber laminates for all the talk damage very easily and are an expensive proposition to repair.
