I have light colored timber flooring in home so was hoping to use spotted gum as the various colors would blend better, But looks like I have to use Merbau due to deck being low off the ground. Less chance of warping is the advice I have been given by a few carpenters. Hope you are happy with the result. Hi Mars5, oh that’s interesting. No, deck not built yet but funnily I was still wishing we had gone for Spotted Gum but we just couldn’t afford the extra cost. I spoke to a friend in Perth who builds decks and he said only uses Merbau. Ours will be low too but built over a slab, not sure if that makes any difference. I’m sure yours will look amazing. I was going to try and choose a natural oil without too much of the red pigment. I’ll post a photo when done but still waiting for frame to complete so will be a while.
