Embelton might be engineered flooring.. But what would you suggest between solid or engineered? and any brand etc we should look at? What brand / quality carpet would you suggest? and underlay? Re: Flooring Options in various areas 6Mar 22, 2018 1:47 am Question to be asked - how often do you plan to vacuum/clean your carpets? Engineered wood is much better when it gets to everyday cleaning, maintenance and looks, healthier too (i.e. carpet is the magnet for the dust which contains allergens). Just put some rugs in the areas where you want to keep it soft (e.g. near the beds). From costs standpoint, high end good quality 100% natural wool carpet with the right underlay will be costing significantly more than good quality engineered wood flooring (e.g. you can get engineered oak for less than $100 per sqm supplied and installed). If you are concerned about acoustics, it makes sense to invest into the batts between the floors (unless you get concrete slab, which even better), they are generally less than $10 per sqm. The only thing about engineered floors (including bamboo floors) - make sure you get ask for E0 certificate to make sure the vendor is complying with the strictest possible formaldehyde emissions standard. Formaldehyde is generally contained in the glue used to manufacture particle boards base of the engineered wood flooring. Solid wood flooring is better from that standpoint as it doesn't use particle boards in its base and it is also more durable from maintenance perspective.
