What would be your cooling setup if you went with gas? algernon, not everyone needs an artificial cooling solution. In fact, if you live in the right place and design your house well, you might not need an artificial heating solution either. True, and that's why I asked what the cooling setup would be, to confirm if there would be one. However, I readily admit that, given that the OP is building a GJ Gardner 'Mountain Views' project home, I went out on a bit of a limb and my default assumption was that active cooling would be a required/desired feature - happy to be shown otherwise! That’s a fair call Re: Electric OR Gas ducted heating/cooling??? 8Dec 24, 2017 12:33 pm Thanks for replies so far. If we went gas it was going to be an add on cooling unit as initially I thought Gas would be cheaper to run. But it’s looking like ducted reverse cycle is the way to go where I can can range in temps anywhere from -7 degrees to low 40s sometimes. In our current home we have a Lopi gas log fire which works great here but wouldn’t be big enough for our new house. Re: Electric OR Gas ducted heating/cooling??? 9Dec 24, 2017 12:58 pm OK, I've glanced at your Build thread and see that you are in the Southern Highlands. First question: what is your driving motivation - do you want heating and cooling (comfort) that is perfect but might cost more or are you willing to endure less pleasant days (hot or cold) but delivery temperature control more cheaply? Second question: are you on town gas - if not, I would pretty much rule out gas? Third question: do you think you will need to both heat and cool this house - if not, you could consider cutting one artificial process or perhaps just using fans in summer and/or portable heaters in winter. Fourth question: have you poured your slab yet - if not, you might consider hydronic heating or other radiant heating solutions, which are generally preferable to heating just the air directly. Re: Electric OR Gas ducted heating/cooling??? 10Dec 26, 2017 7:17 pm We do have town gas and would love to be able to heat and cool the house with heating much more important. We haven't poured our slab yet but have signed our build contract so not sure of we could add in hydronic heating would have to ask. Arcadelt do you work in the industry? Hi everyone!
