Browse Forums Building A New House Daydreamin' 204Nov 18, 2017 5:47 am Week one is done! Scrap done on Monday. I couldn't get over how big our block looked once it was all scrapped. Took my MIL out to have a look, because hubster wasn't having any of it. "Its just dirt" were his words! Went out Thursday lunchtime, and the concretors were sitting around waiting for the surveyor to finish. Finally twisted hubsters arm into going out Friday afternoon. We were pleasantly surprised to find our piering, electrical and plumbing done. Plumbing even council approved. We even had some bricks delivered for the back of the house, SS thinks we are about to lose the back access to our site, rude person wants to start building their house Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Week Two The plan for week two is weather permitting slab pour on Wednesday. Frame delivered ready for Monday of week three. The only problem we have at the moment, is there seems to be problems with slow power connection for new builds on the gold coast/ scenic rim. It should only take about 7-10 days normally, but SS said its taking closer to 20 days for connections. Looks like we are going to have to hire a generator if we don't want everything to stop. SS is hopeful for a March finish, but we aren't holding our breathe. Mid April actually works better for us. Hah, who would have thought i'd be saying a later handover is better. Purchased our pendant lights this week. However, they are out of stock in QLD. They should be in by December, good thing we don't need them anytime soon. Nothing happened. It rained on the weekend, so was to wet to prep on Monday and Tuesday. By Wednesday the weather was bloody beautiful but yet nothing happened. On Sunday, there were people on site doing something. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Week three. Slab rebooked for Thursday pour. Tuesday went out to see some of our prep done for slab pour. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Went out again today, in the pouring rain to find that they still haven't finished slab prep, so we assume it won't be getting poured tomorrow. It's also suppose to rain for the next week. Yay Queensland! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I've had about enough already. We were told for the past 6 months that we were number one priority once our land registered. But yet we are the 4th!!! We got charged $4500 for going over our contract date, but we have been on site for 16 days and we don't even have a slab!! At this rate, we will be lucky to even have a slab by Christmas. Daydreamin' 207Dec 02, 2017 6:38 am Week 3 So to our surprise, our slab was poured in torrential rain on Thursday. SS txt us at 830 saying they were trying their hardest to get the pour done, but the rain was making it exteremly hard. I kinda already figured they wouldnt be pouring, you could hardly see in front of you on the road the rain was that horrible. But the amazing concretors worked all day to get it done. I went out about 2:30 and they were still going. The site was an absolute mess, ankle deep water the whole way around our block. One of the concretors said its the worst weather they have poured in, in years and that the water doesn't seem to drain on our block. While i was at work, still unsure if we were even getting a slab, i got an email chain from our SS, informing us that our kitchen drawers which has been the same for more than 12 MONTHS needs to change. The cabinet maker got our plans for it, and seeing how we have a 900mm induction cook top, we need to change the drawers underneath for ventilation. Below is how the kitchen should be. But now, the oven towers stay the same, but the other 6 drawers will match the overhead cupboards, 350mm x2, 900mmx2, 350mmx2. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Seriously!!!! How many damn people have looked at our plans in the past 16 months, and yet we are at build stage and they have just figured this out!!! There really wasn't anything we could do, but agree to the changes. I didn't spend 2.5k on an induction cook top for it to not work correctly, chance of it overheating etc. Week 4 Plan for week 4 is slab inspection on Monday morning by Kspec, Frames delivered Mon/Tues, hoping to start on Wednesday. Weather permitting of course. We aren't too sure how much further we will get before Christmas, the original plan was to hopefully get to lock up, but with the delay of slab we dont think that's going to happen. SS also doesn't want to start wiring the house and leaving it open over the shutdown, for someone to come in and destroy the house for the wiring. Daydream 30 No more sunburn. We got a hat! 210Dec 17, 2017 12:34 pm Week 4 Slab was inspected Monday 4th Dec. Even though our slab was poured in that torrential rain, it surprisingly still passed inspection. Hubster and I went out at 615am Tuesday morning, to have a peek at the slab. To find our frame delivered, and chippies there about to start putting it up. Frame completed by Saturday. We are losing a whole week that they could be working. SS said he didn't want our windows delivered and getting broken over the xmas break. But seriously there are at least 30 other houses in our estate, much much further ahead than us. People have already moved in, I highly doubt anything will happen to our windows. We got a hat! 212Dec 18, 2017 5:30 pm Today has just been one of those days. Ss rings to confirm no work is booked for this week, I may have gotten a little angry at him. It's just pure frustration, we have to pay for delays because of the developer, but yet because they can't get the house to an 'acceptable' level they just aren't doing anything. Ss calls back 2 hours later, to inform me again our kitchen needs to change. How many incompetent people have looked at our plans? Well and truely over it by this point. The joy isn't there anymore, I said the damn house can burn to the ground for all I care. A few hours later, get a call from the construction manager, just wondering if there is anything he can do it help with my issues... Re: Daydream 30 No more sunburn. We got a hat! 213Dec 18, 2017 10:53 pm Just adds insult to injury when you have to pay delay charges because of slack a*s developers (we are facing that too), then the builder decides to take its sweet time. At the moment we are facing even more delay charges because of incompetent council officers! Just do your jobs already!!! We have our frame stage inspection booked for 730 Tuesday, which is kspecs first day back. So we can't cancel so they better have their **** together!!
