Now the real waiting begins! At this stage we probably won't start moving until January '18. To be honest, I think having to be pressured to make all the decision in the one day is stressful and exhausting, not to mention a tendency to go overboard. So, in the interest of creating a great kitchen, we have cut back on a couple of non essentials. New external colours (only changed the Basalt to Shale Grey - has a calmer feel, I think. Not to mention, more energy efficient with a lighter roof colour. After the first colour selection day, I went home feeling like I just couldn't be bothered with it all - especially when the new estimate was emailed! My overall changes actually reduced our upgrade costs by half, so now we are breathing easier. The gallery is a trap! This is the first time we have built with Simonds. Previously our builder has given us an allowance and then we shopped ourselves at our leisure without the pressure - easier not to get carried away. Which is probably what Simonds is hoping for in order to make more money off us. So glad we stepped back, breathed and went over it again. Good idea going back to get what you want. Colours look great. Re: Taking the plunge building Simonds Rio 14Jan 19, 2018 2:19 pm Hi there, We're about to start building the Rio also. Quick question, I'm guessing your internal doors and settlers profile on the kitchen were not standard? We are doing a tour of the gallery tomorrow to get an idea of the potential upgrades ontop of the upgrades we have included in our quote. Re: Taking the plunge building Simonds Rio 15Jan 19, 2018 5:51 pm Hello! Great to hear from you. I fell in love with the raised ceiling and butler's pantry in the Rio kitchen and I was sold! And, you guessed it, both options are extra. We intentionally saved elsewhere by keeping to the standard inclusions, i.e. tiling - except did pay for additional wall tiles behind the range hood (around $100 for plain white subway) FYI - The biggest disappointment at the gallery was the carpet - it's AWFUL. We got the best we could of a crappy supply and did end up paying $500 for Cat 3 with better underlay. We will be changing it to a better carpet later. I wish we had done a walk through of the gallery beforehand, too - would have saved a lot of pressure and stress on the day. I ended going back a second time and changed everything in the end anyway. Best of luck to you! It has taken nine months to get here - Simonds seems to move very slowly even with our land fully released from the beginning. Our estimated completion date is 8 August. We shall see! We got the keys this week. I think the Rio is roughly the same size. Our site started in November so about 5 months keeping in mind that that included Christmas and Easter breaks. We have reached the slab pouring stage and haven't even met our site supervisor yet due to his annual leave! Might get the frame up before then. At this stage, I don't really care - I'm just happy to finally be progressing. We are almost the same in pace and my slab had been poured last week. What are the white pipes in your slab? are those slab piers or pluming pipes? The fastest thing a builder will do is bank your cheque, those systems work perfectly with lightning speed, everything else is slow burn. Just the way it is. 1 8702 Can someone please offer some advice? Im DESPERATE. Because I'm completely and utterly exhausted. How long are variations taking with other companies at the moment? We… 0 18249 Thanks. I called VBA today and they said it was a Consumer Affairs issue, the old handball. Seems like the government organisations don't want to do their job at the moment. 2 7540 |
