What I'm planning to do is:
- completely new bathroom (toilet could be re-used). Currently melamine walls and floors, so would tile it.
- paint the roof, gutters, exterior and interior completely, including ceilings (the current paint isn't too bad, just yellow)
- sand and re-stain the floors
- maybe add some ceiling fans bought off gumtree or something
I plan on doing almost all of the work myself. I've never renovated, but am hoping this will be the first of many renovations, so I'd like to learn the skills. I haven't had a building and pest yet, but if there is asbestos needed to be removed behind the melamine bathroom, I'd get a professional in to do that. All other work I'm planning on doing myself.
Can I legally waterproof the bathroom myself, or does that also need to be done by a professional?
What would be your best estimate of the cost to do all of this? I plan on using cheap tiles and fittings, but might spend a few extra $$$ for better quality paint if it's worth it. I'm hoping to do all of this for under 10k.
I've also been looking into painting the house with a spray gun. I've heard that is saves a tonne of time, but uses up far more paint than with rollers, and the paint job won't last as long either.
Any other tips or tricks I haven't thought of would be greatly appreciated
