Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry Re: Sink in seperate toilet or combine with main bathroom? 11Oct 18, 2017 1:20 am Well, considering there is some reason why you make your toilet separate with the separate entrance, it definitely makes sense to put in a small sink there. Otherwise, someone who have just used the toilet, will be required to open at least two doors with their dirty hands in order to wash them up. Not very hygienic, if you ask me. And imagine if someone is having a bath or shower at the same time (and, therefore, locked the door). Small sink and mixer would cost something like $150 ($300 installed) and plumbing should not be huge problem/cost differentiator considering that they already do cold water plumbing for your WC and hot and cold water plumbing to your bathroom sink right next to it. Generally, if you can't negotiate common sense with the builder, just ask them to put in a plumbing provision and then buy sink and mixer and install using your own plumber later. If anyone is in the shower and the door is locked, you're in trouble. $1200 isn't that much for a sink. Does it include splash back tiles and a mirror? No it doesn't include that, would be $1,400 and then those are extra. We've gone a half-way house - got provision plumbed in for a sink (water/waste) but will install one ourselves later. We were facing the same issue with our bathroom but changed to this configuration which will hopefullly work a lot better (house hasn't been completed yet). This provides us with a larger shower and removes the problem of the bathroom door potentially clashing with the shower door. Only issue is that anyone using the vanity loses any privacy unless you want to add an additional door. we found it fitted in almost perfectly to the original plan but did cost (ironically) around the $1,400 to change but we did decide on this one quite late in the process. Hope this helps! Re: Sink in seperate toilet or combine with main bathroom? 16Oct 25, 2017 12:52 pm Providing it's not the only bathroom in the house, I prefer the toilet in the bathroom. I like the 'one stop' approach. If you're going to separate the toilet, the sink should be in the toilet, otherwise as mentioned to by a PP it's unhygienic having to open and close doors without washing hands. Also if your separate toilet is so that someone can use the toilet while someone else is in bathroom, not being able to then use the sink in the bathroom is a negative. Any photos of your finished toilet with hand basin? I am having the same dilemma and there are pros and cons to installing a hand basin in the separate toilet, or removing the dividing wall and incorporating the toilet within the main bathroom. Hi We didn’t go through the builder to install our sink as we didn’t like their options - we wanted something simple and it was too expensive. We got the pipework put in (and the toilet wider than normal to accommodate) and bought the sink/tap etc ourselves and had a plumber install.
