Like mine, yours was filthy with muddy boots and rubbish etc but now yours is quite clean and I always wondered how they did it. I don’t think you need to worry about the broken tiles as an extra cost would be on the builder. Only issue is delays if they have to order more or if they came from a different batch but if it looked crap it’s a defect and get redone. For us we had heaps of spares in the end so I guess they really overorder. It wasn't perfect then so I assume the tilers cleaned it when they were preparing to lay the tiles.
