Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 04, 2017 5:57 pm Our Plantation build is due to start on 28th August, and will be sharing the progress here for anyone interested in building the Q1.
We've had a long and involved process over the past 10 months getting all the required permits to clear the trees, and a protected olive plant. 19k in permits and reports later (civil engineer, ecologist, bushfire, surveyor, the list goes on and on!), we are almost ready to build. The earthmover has cleared the land as per our BCC permit, put in a bridge/culvert over the gully at the front of the land, built the driveway with road base on top, and done the pad ready for Plantation. We got our private earthmover to do the pad as Plantation wanted us to have retaining all around the house which was not what we wanted, we wanted a batter gently sloping down. On the 18th August the plumber, electrician and earth mover will be there on the same day to bring water, electricity and phone up to the pad, install the power pole and dig the trenches and lay conduit for all the cables. *The pad site prior to earthworks* Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ *Pad site after trees were taken down* Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ *Driveway area being cleared* Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ *Driveway cleared* Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ *Drainage pipes going down underneath driveway* http://s19.photobucket.com/user/saz1980/media/20139589_10156396112019992_5550766950710631631_n_zpsunu394p7.jpg.html *Driveway finished - photo taken from top looking down towards road* Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ *Floor (to whole house except wet areas) and kitchen choices* Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ *Bathroom choices* Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ *Exterior choices - we went for as natural as possible to blend in with the surroundings* Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ *Outlook standing on the finished pad* http://s19.photobucket.com/user/saz1980/media/Screen%20Shot%202017-08-04%20at%205.47.36%20PM_zpsngmyhc2d.png.html Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ http://s19.photobucket.com/user/saz1980/media/Screen%20Shot%202017-08-04%20at%205.47.56%20PM_zpsdcspwyzw.png.html Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Plantation Retreat Nouveau Q1 build on acreage in Brisba 2Sep 22, 2017 1:14 pm Excited to see your build come together, I do love acreages!! Photobucket are useless! Congratulations on your handover Tamara, that's extremely exciting Can't wait for that day haha! Re: Plantation Retreat Nouveau Q1 build on acreage in Brisba 5Sep 23, 2017 12:19 pm Boring photos, but including them anyway! Electricity and water brought up to the pad site now. Final version of the contract signed a few days ago, and countersigned by Plantation. We will get our dates for start/finish next week. They had better be soon, it's a whole year since we bought the land. Re: Plantation Retreat Nouveau Q1 build on acreage in Brisba 7Sep 23, 2017 12:37 pm Looks awesome. We are also doing an acreage build a couple of hours north of Brissy. We are at frame stage and can't wait to see all our colours come together. Looking forward to following your build. I like how elevated you will be too. Re: Plantation Retreat Nouveau Q1 build on acreage in Brisba 15Oct 08, 2017 1:43 pm Plantation are starting next week! They are going to recompact the pad, put in the piering, set out the frame for the pad and put in the drains/pipes etc next week. The pad is booked in for the 18th/19th weather depending. We dropped past yesterday and they have put the sign up and delivered a portaloo. Much excitement, haha! Hoping the weather is kind to you so you can get off to a flying start Re: Plantation Retreat Nouveau Q1 build on acreage in Brisba 17Oct 09, 2017 9:56 am Thanks! It's looking rainy this week, so we'll have to keep our fingers crossed. We're taking the kids to the display home next weekend to see how they react. That should be fun! Re: Plantation Retreat Nouveau Q1 build on acreage in Brisba 18Oct 09, 2017 5:36 pm Posting to follow love the retreat it's a great design. I do love a good plantation build too. Holy smokes you had a battle with your block and all the reports required. The pad cut is massive but such a pretty spot up amongst the trees. Great idea using your garage as a rumpus, we have turned ours into two bedrooms. We are on acreage too but south west of Brisbane in the Scenic Rim. Looking forward to seeing your site start, it's a crazy long time when you own your land, I'm seriously sick of waiting too. Very exciting you got your loo too the builders are actually coming Re: Plantation Retreat Nouveau Q1 build on acreage in Brisba 19Oct 09, 2017 6:43 pm Yes, it's a big pad cut! Plantation wanted us to have retaining at the front and the back, which we really didn't want, so we hired a private earthmover to do a batter instead. The pad does include room for a pool too at the far end, and an extension to the patio - but we won't be doing a pool for a few years yet as our kids as 2, 3 and 5 and it worries me too much with them being this young. Yes, so glad we changed the garage into a rumpus! Hubby will be having a big shed built, so one side will be cars, deep freeze and storage and the other side will be workshop. It was honestly the most ridiculous process EVER to get all the permits we needed for everything. So expensive, and so time consuming. Do you have land that you are waiting to build on? We've owned this land for 13 months now, so VERY ready for it to kick off! Re: Plantation Retreat Nouveau Q1 build on acreage in Brisba 20Oct 09, 2017 9:00 pm Could you imagine how difficult your block would be to deal with if you guys let plantation retain like that? Crazy, good on you both for getting all the earth works done privately. The pool will be great at the same level, yes I agree about being nervous though, our pool is going on the batter below the house pad and our kids are 2,3,5,9,11 I will have to watch them like a hawk. It's a great use of the garage space, I'm so pleased to see someone else doing it too. Oh nice your shed sounds gigantic. We are going with a shed beside the house too. So much cheaper than adding garage space onto the house. I hate to think how long it all took, my hubby is a scientist and engineer and when he worked in consultancies he dealt with issues like yours, his best mate is a ecologist (if you think they are hard to deal with try living it one ) you have done well to persevere and make it happen. Yes we own our land, have done since April. I'm so sick of driving past it seeing nothing happening. We are currently waiting on the bank to approve our building contract so we can get cracking. 13 months is so long to wait, your finally on the home straight now I think I know the answer but just checking to see if anyone has had experience with it.
