Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Metricon Bentleigh 38 - Wollert VIC 7Sep 23, 2017 1:10 am Ok had not thought of putting a door to ensuite thanks for that. Pretty much same stage with you. Got a call today, we have to sign a form due to things that were picked up by the developer. From then will be waitting for our appointment. Our land though doesnt title till July 2018 Re: Metricon Bentleigh 38 - Wollert VIC 8Sep 23, 2017 8:12 am Yeah, originally had an opening door. But they had to change it to a in wall sliding door. Which I'll assume will go into the wall added to close off the retreat area (haven't seen final draft). It'll be good to close it off and you don't have to be looking into the sink area from the bed, etc. Mine has supposedly been fully approved by the developer. Ah the long wait, my land currently is set for 1st quarter 2018. But who knows, can only hope they start the development soon. But they've sold the last of the stages in the first waves, so maybe they'll be action now. Re: Metricon Bentleigh 38 - Wollert VIC 9Oct 08, 2017 2:28 pm rum_home Nathaniel13 Hie we signed for Bentleigh too. Did you make any changes to your plan? Nice, how far along in the process are you? I'm still waiting for Studio M and Electrical appointments. So far the only major changes planned are:
Nice Did the same thing with our retreat and the study room. I am also planning to close off our pantry with wall sliding door but undecided yet. I don't want the visitors to see what's inside our pantry but thinking closing it off will make the main areas downstairs (kitchen, living area, dining area) look smaller? Have you though of changing the sliding door to a stacker door? My CSC said it will cost around 2k for each area (like if we'll change the sliding door in the living area to the outdoor room to a stacker door).. I don't mind the free access to the pantry, my only reason to put a door there would be so I could put a lock on it also as I currently have the entrance to the garage via that area, another door would be a hassle on entry. Yeah, I like the stacker door to the outside area they use in the display homes. Which would be nice, but it's a lower priority for the type of extras I'm looking for (electrical based). It does allow for a grater open feel. Re: Metricon Bentleigh 38 - Wollert VIC 12Oct 11, 2017 10:50 am Thanks for that information. Though with the initial conversations with the CSR and Studio M person they're not really open to structural changes it seems, which I'm sure a stacker door would be. Which some of these design changes, without knowing them at the pre-sales stage not sure how you would have been able to have an informed decision. I've gotten my Colour and Electrical appointments, which the Electrical is first. I'm hoping that a draft will be sent prior to these appointments, as some changes are an impact on the electricals I've got planned. I'm vert tech focused, so I'm hoping that I can have all my ducks in a row. Has anyone created a 'complex' network layout within their Metricon build? I'm looking at multiple POI points to internal and external security cameras with NAS and servers under stairs as the network hub. I'm hoping they have a cooling/exhaust fan option for that area. Stacker doors are an upgrade option that anyone can choose during their studio appointment. Yes it changes the size and yes its structural, but it can still be done at studio. I guess some things are small structural that they'll allow, and others are to be pushed back to the CSR/Sales team. I do know that when I mentioned extra walls I've asked for and no finalized draft so cannot comment if they're how I want it or not; are set in stone and any changes wouldn't be possible at appointment stages. Re: Metricon Bentleigh 38 - Wollert VIC 18Oct 20, 2017 10:32 am My Electrical appointment has been booked, and for me home tech is a priority. I'm looking to have PoE security cameras plus network points at key locations, terminated under the stairs. I figured a 24 port patch panel, with 24 port switch. Not sure if I'll have to have a secondary switch for the PoE stuff. But looking at any ideas or experience with Metricon and their home network setups. Currently looking at around 14 network points. I haven't thought about the conduits needed from ground floor to roof and such. Is it better to have patch panels on each level, and then link to central rack? I'll want my NAS, UPS and router under the stairs. Has anyone had an exhaust line from under stairs to a nearby toilet exhaust vent installed? I'm worried about heat extraction and looking for a good idea. Maybe out to garage, but that too isn't a cooled environment. Re: Metricon Bentleigh 38 - Wollert VIC 19Nov 04, 2017 8:26 am Had my Electrical appointment yesterday, my consultant seemed nice and informed on their area. I had been on my CSC about finalized plans, as changes had been made. But of course during these appointments they only have the base design, lucky nothing major has been change to structure (no rooms moved). But hard to get a full complete picture or position content when additional walls and doors aren't present. There seems to be a disconnect between departments, as Studio M seem to want drafts and it makes their life difficult when final drafts aren't available and the CSC team don't really care? My consultant seems to be using a new system they're rolling out, the only one there, and it crashes allot and for the second level design it couldn't perform the wiring placement (had to do it by pen after printout). This ate into the allotted time, being the afternoon session I realize they want to wrap up and get out of there so that's not planned well. We didn't get to cover security or home automation options, which I only noticed after I had left. I tried to get allot of information prior to appointment, like Solar options, automation and pricing, but they seem to be very reluctant to give any info to help speed the process on the day. Like even the name of the systems they use, would help, and I now cannot remember the name of the automation they use. Going in there knowing that'll be talking about things like sound/flooring options (at electrical) would have helped and not factored into my thoughts at that stage. So some pre-planned info packs to the client would help all involved and not sure why they keep it a secret, specially when on the day time is a premium and I'm not sure how colour will be able to be done in the same time allotted when it will cover allot more! Overall covered most of the basics, but found it a little bit of unknown as you adding in stuff how much it'll cost. So there is little room for review on the day once you've finalized. I was surprised as the cost difference and I'm waiting for the final quote to change/allow for an add-on cooling option to the heater setup (as it just make it add-on ready). Which I would think was just change the ducts and/or the base heater unit, which on first quote is around 12k?! Seemed excessive. There solar options were on the plus side of costs, and knowing the brands they use (currently Sungrow or Fronius) prior would help on the day. As could research their market costs and reliability. Overall a positive experience, but a lot of room for improvement and I'm surprised that a volume builder that does this everyday wouldn't have a more efficient method of this process. Or have the ability to get basic information to the client without going through so many hoops.
