It was featured on Grand Designs Australia. To achieve the build and to meet standards, he required BRAND NEW containers and lots of $$. But he did it and it looks great. Some 3rd world countries they build with old shipping containers in lieu of corrugated iron but overall to meet Australian standard you'd most likely need brand new ones and deep pockets. Re: Anyone built with shipping containers? 7Aug 28, 2017 9:07 am If you want to bring down the cost of your home try 1. Simulating the design, engineering & construction in 3D BIM (Building information Models) 2. Iron out all the issues before you sign contracts and get to site 3. Avoid costly changes and mistakes 4. Try prefab, modular and optimization construction methods with Data & Proofs 5.Although automation hasn't reached the construction site as it, it has influenced the whole design process. 6. Those Fairy tail TV shows are a load of Cr@p..they sell you a image of a dream an illusion. Have a so "called expert artist design your home and live happy ever after...Ha,ha,ha" where in reality, there's stress, time delays, huge cost overruns, divorce, mental illness and you get stuck with an overpriced house but now there is Grand Design Houses For Sale... go figure Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs Re: Anyone built with shipping containers? 8Aug 28, 2017 9:04 pm Yeah it cost heaps to do it and there were lots of problems. Some people however are happy to spend it. Others not so much Re: Anyone built with shipping containers? 9Apr 25, 2018 10:20 pm Emsy1981 We are seriously considering and are currently pricing up using shipping containers for our build. Hubby is a welder and we will be doing most things (Apart from the electrical/plumbing side of things.) Just wondering for those that have used them, would you go the same route again knowing what you know now? Has it worked out any better cost/time wise? Did you have much trouble with council etc? build with shipping containers if you want your house to look like a shipping container , if your'e just going to clad it all over then dont bother as you will be burdened with plenty of engineering costs and poor insulation qualities Re: Anyone built with shipping containers? 10Jul 31, 2018 9:52 pm I'm just about to start with a small 1 bedroom cabin made from just one 40 foot high cube container. It'll be a permanent building (I've confirmed I will be able to get the 75 year life span confirmation required for council). My main query is the quotes I've gotten for the container supplier to install the windows and doors for me is HUGE! I have several friends who are builders and welderers who are all insisting they will be able to install these at much smaller costs. They have all advised the same thing, that because all the weight of the containers are held on the 4 corners (and all windows and doors will be on the long sides not very close to the corners) I will not need additional steel supports. They've advised I will simply need to cut the openings into the steel, they can use timber reveals and seal the edges with silicon or use metal reveals and weld them to the container walls with no additional support. This option seems great cost wise but a bit DIY and want to make sure this would be ok? Is this all they do in the factory of the container supplier or would they put additional supports in from top to bottom of the containers where the cuts are made? Thanks, Faye. Re: Anyone built with shipping containers? 11Aug 01, 2018 6:51 am FayeA Floor Plan & Elevations do help others, checkout 3D Warehouse for Shipping Container Homes and model an initial design You would need to trim around the openings and give consideration to waterproofing and Insulation, etc, etc ie Councils (checklist) require specifications, Plans, construction & Engineering details & Calculations/signature as there are no Australian standards Cutting Openings & Welding, buy a plasma cutter/welder for around $500, and DIY, resell if you have no further use for it cheers Chris Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs Hi All, we are starting to think of building with Masterpiece Builders in Victoria, has anyone had any feedback or experience with them 0 14291 I haven’t.
