Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 27, 2017 1:30 pm I'm looking at house plans and have spoken over the phone with their sales staff but I'm wanting to know if people have heard of good or bad reviews of their QLD offices? There are a lot of reviews from NSW but I assume that culture is really different between branches with most companies. Do you have an opinion on their build quality, flexibility and that standard "oh, that's going to cost you a lot more", if you make any queries once they have your deposit? I've got a small private builder that will probably cost me a decent amount more for a very similar plan and I'm tossing up just paying the extra to avoid project builders. Would love feedback! Re: Mcdonald Jones homes in QLD - North Lakes 2Jul 27, 2017 5:14 am we are in the process of deciding whether to go with mjh in nsw. i am making sure that everything is written down especially offers we have been given so if we decide then we wont be hit to bad hopefully . the only thing is the slab and pier costs are unknown till being poured. Re: Mcdonald Jones homes in QLD - North Lakes 3Aug 07, 2017 8:53 pm Well I have chosen to NOT build with MJH. The sales guy seemed very nice but after a few weeks of asking for a breakdown of costs, I was given a generic template of exorbitant site costs. I am building two identical (except facade) houses side-by-side on a splitter block so being charged twice for things such as site fencing, temporary power poles, site survey, soil tests, etc. was ridiculous. It was clear that the sales guy just wanted to get me into the office so I asked him to get some actual prices for my circumstances. He insisted that they had reviewed the prices and we arranged a meeting. Upon arrival I was disappointed to learn that the quote was still the generic template and they hadn't done anything. I was told that if I wanted them to review something that I had to point out what was unnecessary. I could only assume that the strategy is to start with a whole lot of bogus costs and then you never actually get to negotiate... You're simply arguing to avoid paying for things that don't exist. I humored the sales guy and identified a heap of charges that seemed bogus and he insisted that he would come back to me within a few days. A week later he simply sends me an email asking if we can proceed to a contract... Still not answering the questions from day one. I sent a polite email stating that I wouldn't be proceeding and I'm not comfortable with moving further when my queries had not been answered. He replied with an extremely unprofessional and petty email accusing me of having "ulterior motives" and that he always knew that I would "find a reason to make things their fault". Considering we live in an age where emails can circulate, I found this lack of consideration of their reputation to be quite alarming. I'd be happy to share a copy if anyone is interested. I hope others have a better experience. Re: Mcdonald Jones homes in QLD - North Lakes 4Aug 08, 2017 11:29 am We found their North Harbour representative extremely rude. We did a quick in and out of the couple of houses up there, and when we walked through his office parts to get to the other house he made made comment about us "rushing through" as if we were ruining his day and/or we were wasting his time. He did the same when we walked through to leave. Ummm, yea we rushed out because we didn't like the house..... Surely he would be used to people wandering through and not wanting to waste his time by talking to him about something we aren't going to buy! Re: Mcdonald Jones homes in QLD - North Lakes 5Aug 10, 2017 10:42 pm I should point out that I actually dealt with the guy from Newport. I don't know if they still have the North Lakes display open but when I first posted this thread, the sales guys said that he was from North Lakes but he was at Newport. I actually got a follow up call from someone earlier this week who told me that the person I was dealing with is no longer with MJH and he was following up all of his files. Hi AKG, We had a base tender of $592 for 31 squares from MC Donald Jones. It looks relatively cheaper than other builders. But I assume there are many hidden things that… 1 17573 May I ask why you chose not to use GJ Gardiner? I'm actually meeting with one of the sales guys tomorrow for an appointment. Definitely not signing anything yet… 3 14092 Hi all. Anyone know when the $11,000 limit was set in legislation for renovations in QLD? Ive been renovating for 5 years now and this was the limit back then. As we know,… 0 4838 |
