Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jul 20, 2017 1:53 pm Not sure if this is allowed here but I was wondering how much Interest Rates people were paying on their Home Loans in 2017. We looking for a construction loan and there seems to be a big difference between banks. You also need to look at fees, conditions, exit costs, options on payment frequencies, etc. I suggest you set up a spreadsheet with all these factors and record your analysis on it for comparison purposes. I also suggest you learn everything about home loans before you start seriously looking for finance. Also study the forum "propertychat". More knowledge means less chance that you will be ripped off. Interview lots of banks, building societies and other financial institutions with a long list of questions and record the answers on your spreadsheet. If you do all this you will succeed in getting the best deal for your circumstances. If not you will be another victim of the thousands of sharks out there ready to destroy your financial future. Re: Interest Rates 8Jul 27, 2017 10:31 pm I just thought i'd share a story with all you folk re banks and lending. A long time ago, talking 1970's here, the banks held all the power. I remember going into the then State Savings Bank (SSB) of Victoria with an appointment to see the manager re my first housing loan.I am in my mid 20's at this stage and had been with this branch since primary school. Along with me I had my bank book and payslips with a couple of tax returns. All was going well till the manager caught sight of a commonweath bank book I had amonst my paperwork that I used for other saving purposes.Well did he give me the biggest payout, talking to me about loyalitiy to the one bank and ended up telling me I'd blown my chances of getting a loan. Told me to go and close that other account and come back in a weeks time and he might be in the mood to reconsider. How things have changed. |
