Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Stroud Homes 4Jul 18, 2017 5:57 pm We're building the Kirra 303, NDR. We've gone through a nightmare demolition - worst week of our lives - our slab is down and we're waiting on frames. We hit a frustrating delay of over 2 months trying to get a late change made to our plans but hopefully things will start to progress more smoothly once the frames arrive. Apart from this delay we have found Stroud Sydney to be friendly and helpful. While their tender seemed quite high it was very inclusive and we haven't had to add much to it at all. Our biggest surprises cost wise came from Council and demolition. I'm frustrated at the delays but mainly because we are slowly losing our sanity living with my father-in-law!!!! So looking forward to getting back to our address. 😫 Re: Stroud Homes 5Sep 11, 2017 6:19 am Another 2 months have gone by and we're still waiting for a frame to be erected. Lots of wood sitting on the block in anticipation and teasing us. Frustrating experience so far. Re: Stroud Homes 6Sep 11, 2017 6:32 am Fingerscrossed Another 2 months have gone by and we're still waiting for a frame to be erected. Lots of wood sitting on the block in anticipation and teasing us. Frustrating experience so far. Oh that would be annoying. What is the hold up? Re: Stroud Homes 7Sep 11, 2017 6:59 pm We threw them into a spin by requesting a change of plan upstairs back in April. It took till July to get that re-approved and since then we've been waiting, and waiting, and waiting...........latest is there should be chippies there next week starting to build. Please, please, please. And we've had the best winter weather for building. What a waste! Trying to think positively and believing it will be all worth it. 😩 Re: Stroud Homes 10Nov 08, 2017 7:00 am After a stressful false start with a builder that shall remain nameless, we're building with Stroud homes on the Sunshine Coast - a modified Como 186. How are you all going with your build? So far, we can't fault them, Pam, our rep at Parklakes II in Bli Bli has been absolutely amazing. No query or alteration is too difficult and she's made the whole process so far, seamless. Our land isn't registered until March, so they've also accommodated us with the quote to make sure that the price is fixed until the build can begin. Their reviews are also really good, so we're very confident that we've made the right choice. Re: Stroud Homes 13Nov 08, 2017 2:21 pm We're building in Sydney. Frame is up, bricks and windows delivered. There was an issue on the plan that needed to be adjusted after approval and everything went belly up from there. We should be in now. And now we have an unexpected bill for over $8000. Not handled well. Still hopeful though that we'll end up with a lovely home.....eventually! Love the design. Re: Stroud Homes 14Dec 09, 2017 4:51 pm Communication is so very important. Without it clients are left to assume things and fill the gaps which results in frustration and miscommunication. Certainly finding this to be lacking which is making our journey all the more disappointing. But apparently we're expecting too much and don't understand. 🤐😞 Re: Stroud Homes 15Dec 16, 2017 6:52 pm How did you go? So much for their fixed price quotes https://www.stroudhomes.com.au/our-quot ... and-white/ We had major issues with our build in QLD. The main issue was poor management along with high turn over of staff. Our friends had over 5 supervisors during their build and they basically handed over a home with defects which did not get fixed, we were lucky and had less. Some of our supervisors were outstanding which makes me wonder what happened. Wanted to have nothing to do with us which is disappointing when you spend so much and it is one of the most emotional things we will ever do in our lives. Our home is nice but overpriced. We will get another building company next time. Re: Stroud Homes 16Dec 28, 2017 4:22 pm We've found their fixed price ok. We had another huge expense due to demolition charges. And we'll need funds afterwards for more concreting, landscaping and blinds. We found we weren't advised of upgrade options which meant we kept going back after contract with requests for costings and variations. Don't like the way they are dealing with variations though. Each one automatically has at least a week's extension to contract time in the fine print regardless of what the variation is for. Of importance too is the requirement to make up a variation for approval prior to the work being done, not afterwards. Of greatest annoyance though has been poor communication. This house is taking a very long time to build, way longer than expected. Couple this with poor communication and the builder ends up with very annoyed, disgruntled clients. Trying to stay positive though, expecting a lovely house at the end of this drawn out painful build.😬 Re: Stroud Homes 17Dec 30, 2017 4:23 pm Just discovered something else to annoy me. Our tender mentions tiles through main areas. We were directed to select tiles from their supplier at Girraween last February. Couldn't find anything concrete looking and were advised we could look at 450 x 450 tiles. Chose a charcoal tile which is ok. But have now trolled their Facebook page....back in oct 2016 they promoted 600 x 600 tiles available as standard and their small display at their office has concrete looking tiles which we didn't find at the warehouse. Just another example of poor communication. Re: Stroud Homes 18Feb 22, 2018 8:59 am Fingerscrossed Just discovered something else to annoy me. Our tender mentions tiles through main areas. They sent us an email saying they made a mistake in the quote and gave us a new one and it was $50,000 more. So we didn't bother. Re: Stroud Homes 19Mar 18, 2018 2:03 pm Habiburg, am I right that you are also doing a knock down rebuild and in the Canterbury Bankstown area? I wouldn't be surprised if they would prefer to not do another like ours as there have been huge delays, errors and clashes along the way. I think not building in a new estate is hard for them to manage. Perhaps they've chosen to quote big hoping you don't bother or so that they feel they might cover potential losses. That's a huge error in quoting otherwise. We're still crawling to lock up stage. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.........we wouldn't have bothered with this build if there had been some way of knowing just how stressful it would be. Very trying on our health and relationships. I would never build with Fowler homes. I built with them in 2021 and till date maintenance issues are pending. All their existing trades and businesses don't work with… 14 109775 Hi there!
