Do you have much to do after handover? Thanks There's not much for us to do internally. We managed to negotiate with the builder all internal painting, floor coverings and even some pull down window coverings to see us through when we initially move in. We will probably make up some curtains for the master bedroom though. Most of the work required is on the outside. The developer is pretty much taking care of the front landscaping but we need to figure out what we are doing with the back and sides. The big debate at the moment is on clothesline placement I also need to install a side gate which I'll do with the old man and also need to buy and install a letterbox. We also want to install a security door on the front so will be getting one of those priced up soon. Also we plan to change the front light fittings but haven't decided with what yet. Other than that we also need to decide on some furniture for the new house like couch for the theatre, new bed for the master, desk for my office so i can enjoy the view out of the corner window We have been lucky enough to score a free dishwasher off my folks over the weekend via one of their friends which is brand spanking new so that's saving us some money. Now also debating about the move. I was going to hire a van and get a couple of mates to help on the weekend but the weekend rates for van hire at the moment is crazy. Will probably just hire a removalist on a weekday as I'll be taking some time off and get them to move the large items and we can shift the smaller stuff. Won't really end up costing much more. Also debating hiring a cleaning company to sort out the rental when we move out so we can focus on the new place. Everyone tells me it's worth it but I'm a bit of a scrooge at the moment Our build thread with Smart Homes for Living in Wellard https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=86092 Re: First timers - Smart Homes for Living in Wellard 293Jul 17, 2017 2:27 pm Definitely worth hiring a cleaning company to clean the rental once you leave, highly recommend the service seeking website. We're vacating our rental in a month's time to move in with my partner's father while our house is being built and we got quotes back ranging 250 - 450. Then you have peace of mind knowing you should have your bond returned in full and you don't have to worry about arranging a day to clean it top to toe Re: First timers - Smart Homes for Living in Wellard 294Jul 17, 2017 3:09 pm jad33mily Definitely worth hiring a cleaning company to clean the rental once you leave, highly recommend the service seeking website. I keep needing to remind myself of all my previous moves and how much i hated cleaning the last place while trying to sort out the new place. It does seem like money well spent. I agree, I think the cleaner will be worth it. Your new home will take enough of your time up as it is I'm going to hire a van/truck for my move. I will coordinate to pick up my new appliances and furniture that day too which will mean I'm saving on multiple delivery costs - makes it easier to justify the truck hire expense First home builder - Brightwood Estate, Baldivis. Follow my build here I thought about doing the same but we haven't decided on furniture yet The cheapest truck i could get on a Saturday was $200 plus fuel (i swear i paid a lot less last time I rented one). If i get a removalist on a weekday they seem to charge around $100 per hour for the truck and two guys. I reckon i can get all the big items loaded and moved in a 3 hour rental window so it's not gonna make much difference price wise. If we can decide on some furniture before the move though it might be more worth while hiring the van. I ordered my theatre couch the other day and they will hold until I'm ready First home builder - Brightwood Estate, Baldivis. Celebration Homes. Follow my build here yeah, we are planning to go look at some house stuff on the weekend so might nip into a couple of furniture places if we have time just to see if anything takes our fancy. Main items are the couch for the theatre and the new bed. We are probably gonna order our new mattress online but need a new base to go with it. We've also given our couch, TV unit, coffee table and bar stools on my nephew who's about to move into his first place by himself so we'll also drop those off at the same time.
