He told me to stay off site, but he knows I'm always in there. Just turns a blind eye. =D Spoke to my SM for the first time yesterday. She told me that she only contacts me for an update on Friday morning. Any issues we have or want to raise should be communicated via email. Let's hope we can develop a good working relationship and she can turn a blind eye to us coming onsite. My KDR Metricon Hampshire - Liberty - 45 viewtopic.php?t=86114 Our SM is very efficient, though is very defensive when I raise any issues. I had to go over his head a few times because he was frustrating me so much. All the best with your build and don't be afraid to address any concerns. You are paying the builder a lot of money to build your home. You are their boss and they need to work for you. I think as long as we are polite and respectful, they need to listen and address any concerns as they arise. Thanks for the advise. Did you ever attend site without your SM and raised issues that you found? My KDR Metricon Hampshire - Liberty - 45 viewtopic.php?t=86114
Yep all the time and I still do. Though I don't make out though I have been on site without them. When I am meeting on site I just do a quick walk around and then bring up the issues as if I have just seen them.
Given how much progress can occur in between visit, would have liked to make sure it got fixed sooner than later. This is the issue I was thinking off. It might be nothing but it looks poor craftsmanship to me. I would not accept that. We had splits in some of the timber and rotted timber. I went to my site supervisors boss and asked for it to be fixed and it finally got done. Where's the craftsmanship and pride in their work. Even my kids saw it and ask they didn't fix it. They are only 11 & 8. They fixed it all up without me saying anything. You'll be able to tell when they are done with the frames when they do a once over and shave the timber to make sure everything is flat for the plaster and fix and busted timber like the ones you pictured. For those who have built in a greenfields estate with NBN provided. I have not moved in yet but will be in the next few weeks. I have a NBN box beside my electricity meter box on the side of the house and then a larger box NBN box in the garage. This is the item in my contract. Or Do I need to get a NBN provider service person to attend and run cable and connect everything ? Re: Building with Metricon 5613Jul 03, 2017 1:41 am pj87 Quick Question Regarding NBN. Or Do I need to get a NBN provider service person to attend and run cable and connect everything ? Since you have the NBN box installed already sounds like you can just arrange do a self connect. I am in a greenfield site with nbn FTTP. Once the NBN Box is installed in my garage I just run a cat 6 from that box to my wall out let. I have had my house prewired so that the wall outlet leads to under the stairwell. I will then plug my modem into the wall outlet. All the cat 6 point in the house terminate under the stairs too. I can run these to a switch and then connect the loaded switch to a modem. This was asked by another forum member and here was my response (I'm a registered cabler so I did all of my network, phone, alarm and TV cabling post handover) viewtopic.php?f=31&t=87707 Re: Building with Metricon 5616Jul 03, 2017 7:29 pm Drew01 JLH222 You can get them online issued via QLD but you'll need to complete a stat dec signed by a JP before they'll issue it. This training doesn't instantly give a holder the blanket right to enter a worksite, it is only confirmation that you have completed generic training on safety requirements of high risk work areas which typically have their own site and company specific safety training inductions that must be completed before allowed to be there. Blue Dog training, did the course online, completed the exam online, scanned a copy of my ID with it witnessed by a friend (didn't need to be a JP or stat dec level signatory), received a phone call from their office to verify who I am and got asked a couple of verification questions verbally from the course then got the card in the post by the end of the week. Their ones are issued by West Australia and are valid in all states. The thing about Vic being different has now been clarified by Worksafe Vic as invalid as all cards are issued based on the same National Worksite Safety training modules which cannot be discriminated against regardless of the course delivery method (face to face or online). Be aware that online cards issued from Queensland are marked are issued online, but WA cards aren't so I knew which state I would be gong through. Re: Building with Metricon 5617Jul 03, 2017 7:40 pm pj87 Thanks for your reply nomnomnom. Considering that M has installed ethernet wall outlets, would you say that network cable is already running from the NBN box to the wall outlet ? This is how it all needs to be set up per NBN website. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ All your network points will terminate somewhere in the house. Usually under the stairs. You then need to buy cables and plug each of the terminated points into a switch. You then need to run one or two cat6 cables to a router. The plug the router to the socket which runs to the NBN box. So to answer your question, No. Cheers Nom Newhaven 36 by M Blog - North Shore Newhaven (http://nsnewhaven.blogspot.com.au) Build - https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=85092 Re: Building with Metricon 5618Jul 03, 2017 7:51 pm jessicagauci Renman jessicagauci Yep all the time and I still do. Though I don't make out though I have been on site without them. When I am meeting on site I just do a quick walk around and then bring up the issues as if I have just seen them. Same here. We've installed noggins (and our SM told us he'd turn a blind eye if we did).. and will just let our independent inspectors know so they don't ping M at inspection. I've even called the SM when I've gone there in the evening and found a plumbing leak - water getting all over the bedrooms as a insulation installer had nicked a pipe. Turned the mains off and the SM thanked me for picking it up. Tradies have rocked up and found me on site - weed spraying. No issues. With your framing issues I'd be surprised if that quality passed M's QA. Re: Building with Metricon 5619Jul 03, 2017 10:42 pm Hi All Has anyone build Glendale 41 with Como facade, if so could you please share some photos. I am considering it but as there is no display with Como facade its hard to imagine. I love the Isla facade but its over our budget hence thought Como was a good compromise as hoping the timber slats is a good feature. I wanted to go and install some extra noggins for where our towel racks will be and our future dryer might go. It's good that he doesn't mind. Well when I raised it he kept saying it was fine and it will pass the QA. I said that's fine, but as the paying customer, I would please like to have it replaced. He continued to argue with me so I went to his boss. Now we are waiting on the plumbers to come back to fix the plumbing work, as we paid for two water inlets and two hot water systems to service each end of the house. Only 1 was accounted for with no gas pipes going to the gas hot water unit. They wanted to start gyprocking though I brought it to his attention and we are just waiting for head office to sort it out. The tradies have had old plans without our variations which is causing a lot of errors. Some supervisors don't like owners that are thorough and on the ball. But hey, if they do it right the first time they won't have to come back and do it again. Like you say, sometimes you can actually pick up on errors for them that will save them time and money.
