Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 03, 2007 1:37 pm Well we have got our land now and everything has settled about 4 weeks ago, we went out pass the block on the weekend, was at the most expecting only for the weeds to have been cleared.
BUT to our surprise there was work done on our home. I jumped out of the car and was jumping up and down like a little school kid. (Yes this is our first home) They have put in the under slab plumbing and built up the slab pad it had plastic over it and the metal mesh was on top of that. Anyway back to the start, we are building our first home - we are building the Coleridge with Homestart - we seen the display in Wellard and fell in love with it, so made so changes to make it ours and away we went. Has anyone else built with Homestart? How was it? We have an independent inspection company going out to check the slab work next week just to be safe, because I wouldn’t know if there was anything wrong unless there was a big crack in it.... anyway I will try and get some pics up this weekend. Look forward to following the other homes being built on here as well as making some new friends. (Yes this is our first home) Ah, we've done the same silly things. Maybe even more silly-ery! If that's even a word. We went and celebrate our site start by eating dinner at a local restaurant and me having a few too many cocktails. We hadn't even been to the block but we just went and celerbated anyway. Hehe But anyway, congrats! It's one very exciting time, isn'it it. Good luck on the rest of the process and I'm sure the rest of the forum members are just as keen to see your progress so keep us all up to date. Yes we felt foolish but were so excited that we were building a home together! No matter how silly you feel doing stuff ... keep doing it!!! It's such an enjoyable experience I sometimes wish we were still going through it. Just seeing the changes and everything coming together is awesome. Good luck and we look forward to being silly-er-est with you )) A Re: So far so good now the dream is being built. 4Aug 03, 2007 5:18 pm No matter how many homes you own - it's always a thrill - even when you get the next one.
Great to see you so excited about your life acheivements. For without something to be excited about - what is there to be excited about? So what else have folks done when they've got their new house. I've camped with my wife on our 5 acre block - just so we could enjoy living where we did and watching the stars and the comets above. And remember - The trick is to not stop doing those things that are special Steve The fun of owning a block 5Aug 03, 2007 5:26 pm I think the neighbours will think we are nuts by now. We have our land for a couple of years before we started building. Since owning the block we have
1) Cut the block 1 acre with a little ride on mower and then raked the whole block and left the grass clippings in a neat pile ( I think we were a little excited that we had just bought it) 2) Visited it regularly when nothing changed it is just grass!! 3) Regularly have friends over put up a portible gazebo shade have drinks kick around a ball the kids ride a little pee wee around ect Basically just treat it like our local park 4) Put up a 20metre X 10 metre tarp just as a practice run for camping ohh and it was extremely windy so there was tarp, poles and ropes flying everywhere 5) This weekend we are having a slab party. BBQ lunch on the site with our friends and all the kids. We will share a slab of beer. Only problem is they have already started framing the house. So now we have to call it the slab frame party, damn them builders moving to fast The guys all wanted to camp there overnight but I put a stop to it as thats just going to far. So have fun its not everyday you get to build a house! I wish my neighbours would do that!!! Their grass is nearly up to my lower window height. Good for you, enjoy and have fun, that’s what its all about!
