Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 30, 2017 9:52 am I need quick help on heights of windows and stacked doors. I have raised ceiling height to 2.7 ground and 2.55 first floor and raising the doors height to 2340 both ground and upper levels. Now what should I do with windows and stacked doors like .. should I increase height to align with doors. Normally what are the other things that others have considered/taken care of when they raised ceiling heights and door heights. Thanks heaps in advance. Re: Metricon window height - quick help 2Apr 30, 2017 10:19 am There are usually 3 things you can do with the windows: 1. Leave the window size the same and pick up the whole window and raise it 2. Increase the window height by the same amount as the ceiling increase 3. Do nothing to the windows. This would then mean there will be more plaster between the top of the window and the ceiling and from the outside, the window won't sit flush against the eaves (there will be brick in between) It's all based on preference which you do for certain windows. I personally think option 3 wouldn't look very good. I went with option 2 for most of my windows. As for stacker doors you can only really do option 2 & 3. Again I thought option 3 wouldn't open up the house as much as there will plaster above the doors (creating a cave effect) and opted for option 2. Other things you might want to consider: 1. Lighting particularly if you're considering downlights. The ceiling is further from the ground so you may need to increase the number of lights, beam angle or intensity. 2. Wardrobe doors. Some builders increase the height of the internal doors except the wardrobes. Consider the height of the wardrobe shelf and rail. If you have increased the height of the doors you'll be able to see more of the items above the shelf - consider whether you would want the shelf and rail to pick up in height giving room for say shoes at the bottom 3. Kitchen and Laundry cabinetry. I'm not building with M, but I imagine they'll increase the bulkhead for the cabinetry above the kitchen splashback. This could make your kitchen look odd. Consider increasing the height of overhead cabinets. You'll also need to consider the relative width of the cabinets too otherwise just increasing the height may make it look tall and skinny 4. Front door height - I would increase the height of this to match the increased ceiling 5. Any entrances to rooms with square sets & no doors (e.g. to butler's pantry). The increased roof would probably just add to the top of the entrance so double check of the effect you want for those rooms. Re: Metricon window height - quick help 3Apr 30, 2017 10:59 am Take a look at my build, we went for 2700 ceilings but left the windows as standard and I reckon it helps with making the rooms feel bigger. By having the windows at standard height off floor also let the curtain guys fit the roman blinds on the windows and stacker door higher so when fully open the entire window is visible and we don't have part of the blinds encroaching.
