Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Mar 13, 2017 9:05 am Hello, I had some cracked grout around the edge of my shower drain that I am repairing. I removed the cracked / loose grout with a knife which has left quite a deep gap between the tile and the edge of the drain. See photo. My question is: should pack this gap with as much grout as possible? By doing so could I block the weeping holes for the drain? Thanks, Re: Grouting around shower drain 2Mar 13, 2017 5:19 pm Also, I stuck a piece of paper down the gap to get an idea of how deep it is. I think about 12 mm. The tip of the paper came out very slightly moist. The shower hasn't been used in 3 months. Would it be normal for moisture to be down there. I only removed the cracked grout last night to expose it. Thanks Re: Grouting around shower drain 3Apr 27, 2017 4:03 pm The problem here is the tiler has done a bad job and needs to be redone. Sanded grout needs to be installed in wider grout joints. Skinny grout joints it will just fall out over time. Movement also can cause this and if there is a 12 mm deep crevice then this also needs to be filled up or grout will just fall after use. To fix this yourself, I would just use more grout to fill up the void as you suggested. Overtime it may happen again or may not. Weeping holes should be fine as they usually block up anyway. Grab a hose, insert it at the top of the inlet/down pipe and turn the water on and see where the water is escaping from. Then you'll know. 3 8613 Yeah mine about 9 metres long and 8 wide with slope of 25% at one point but the end point of the outlet is past the side of garage and if he concretes allowing for… 4 4607 Agreed. I just found out today the certifier has not given the final sign off. 2 4156 |
