Cheers, M Firstyle Home - Braeside 42sq 39May 04, 2017 4:19 pm Its a waffle pod slab, reason why it is placed? my understanding is because they don't want the fill to be entire concrete, and would require more man hours and more concrete and expensive, plus drying so much concrete would take extra measures and extra time. So the waffle pods as its called, is used to fill the void that would require less concrete pouring and in circumstances, where the house is old and need to be demolished in so called future when it has had its time, the slab will be easy to remove. But your Garage and Alfresco in many cases is made of hard concrete to support the weight of cars or if you put a jack under the car so it doesn't poke hole in the floor, as the weight is concentrated on one point. I guess that will be enough for you to understand Aussie way of building, pretty much, not much effort is involved as in the past years like in europe all architecture is concrete and stones.
