Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building with Eight Homes ! 3May 21, 2017 11:15 pm Hi Persol, I am building Five-1 (not sure what it is called now, they changed the whole naming) with 8Homes, Melbourne western suburb. Currently at Lockup stage and so far 8Homes has been satisfactory, not without a hitch or two. A few things that really get me. - during contract sign day, the drawing and sales quote they presented was not the same I signed with at Sales, it was missing a number of important changes/upgrades. The changes had to be added as post-contract variation. Make sure you ask them to show you the final drawing and sales quote before your contract day. - Get an inspector. So far 8Homes contractors are a bit shifty like frame overhang due to base concrete does not properly fit, using nails below standard, wrong window type and incorrect brick colour. Could be just a small mistakes and so far 8Homes always responded promptly. All the best with your upcoming build, and post some pictures of your progress. Re: Building with Eight Homes ! 4May 22, 2017 8:52 am Hi Mrak692, thank you for sharing your experience. It is comforting to know you have had good experience so far. We signed our contract last week and it was a good experience. Our pricing was not changed but there was descrepency in terms of completion date. The sales person told us it will be 6 months in the contract however they are handing over in about 5 months. But our contrcat had 228 days which is about 7.5 months. In terms of reaponse and communication, they have been really good. I think We will hire an independent inspector to keep them in line. Hope our rest of the journey goes smooth. How long its taking for your construction? Cheers Re: Building with Eight Homes ! 5Sep 18, 2017 11:41 pm Hi guys, I haven't had my tender appointment yet. Just wondering if you can still make changes to your quote or plan after the sales submit your file to the head office to process. We are feeling a bit pushed to finalise the quote. Also have you guys had the electrical appoint? Any advice would be appreciated. Re: Building with Eight Homes ! 6Sep 19, 2017 1:25 am Hi SakuraSE, you can change anything until you sign the contract without any fees. We added/deleted few items. There is a variation fees of $750 if you want to change anything after signing contract. We deleted Bushfire requirement as our lot came out of bushfire zone. They did not allow to make any change after the site start. As a suggestion, try to avoid changes after contract or close to site start as it will delay the start of construction. Also we did not have a seperate appointment for electrical, just the normal color appointment. Which one are you building? Cheers Re: Building with Eight Homes ! 7Sep 20, 2017 1:08 pm Thanks for the advice Persol. I hope I can wrap everything up before the contract day. I am building Emden. They require an electrical appointment at an extra cost if it's over 15 changes. I will add many power points and relocate some lights which will definitely go over the limit. How long do you have to wait to get a colour appointment? Do you have to decide everything on that day? Thanks Re: Building with Eight Homes ! 9Nov 05, 2017 6:30 pm Thanks all for the great experiences mentioned here. I am also in the works in 8Homes. Doing the color browse appointment in a fortnight. So far so good in terms of communication (v.important as a FHB). Noting down mrak692's experience too - will be wary. Re: Building with Eight Homes ! 11Nov 28, 2018 7:16 pm Any other recent experiences with this builder? Re: Building with Eight Homes ! 13Dec 05, 2018 8:08 pm I am not sure whether to hijack this or create my own, but I am currently building with them, my experience hasn't been overall great. Not terrible but they could do a lot better and definitely get your own private inspector! Feel free to ask any questions you have, I will do what I can to answer them! Re: Building with Eight Homes ! 15Apr 16, 2019 11:58 am bldgel Hi ThrowAway1 - would you be able to suggest a private inspector around Geelong area? Also, interested in what sort of issues you have found so far. We are up to a lock up stage. Thanks Hi there, Might be too late now but Manse Group are good and local to Geelong Hope it all got sorted for you! Ask for references and speak to them. If they are defensive or try to avoid the request, walk. 1 74717 I would never build with Fowler homes. I built with them in 2021 and till date maintenance issues are pending.
