They were forwarding an email from from council regarding our roof. Apparently 'surfmist' is considered too reflective and therefore innapropriate for an inland country town 🤔 Soooo.... looks like we're overhauling the facade colours. I think we could possibly argue the point but to be honest we had been considering shale grey from the beginning so we'll go with that and just reconsider the other colours too. At this stage I think we are moving into the 'pick your battles' zone 😅 Re: Fairmont Homes Custom Build Myponga, SA 37Apr 28, 2017 8:13 pm I guess it is the lightest of the colorbond colours, but still it's not like its galvinised or tin or something. Far out, 5 minutes up the road and you are in a different council area and there are plenty of surfmist roofs here. I hope you come up with something else you like Building a Fairmont Custom in Seaford Meadows Our Build Thread Re: Fairmont Homes Custom Build Myponga, SA 38May 01, 2017 3:00 pm Too reflective?? Are they worried you will dazzle someone coming down the street?? You would think from an energy conservation point of view they would encourage lighter coloured roofs! a quick google shows it might be a widely used council policy! 'The third factor is local government. Many councils have restrictions on how light a colour you can use on a roof. The main reason for this seems to be that the majority of the housing stock already has a dark coloured roof, so new buildings have to blend in to some degree. The lack of foresight is plain to see—if no-one changes the equation, we will be stuck with dark-roofed, thermally inefficient houses for evermore' Re: Fairmont Homes Custom Build Myponga, SA 39May 21, 2017 9:29 pm Thanks MJT and hillbuilder. It is a bit of a strange one. We drove through a new developement in Port Elliot and that is full of surfmist too. So Victor council don't have a problem with it? But oh well. We did like it for the energy efficiency but I had been leaning towards shale grey. So, in the meantime we've just been waiting for council... and waiting. We took the kids on a road trip to qld to for a couple of weeks just after easter, to see ky inlaws. We are staying with mum and grandad (which is NOT fun) while we build. Grandad had a knee reconstruction during the school holidays and we thought we'd better let him come home to a quiet house (if only for a couple of weeks). Once we got back we went up to clipsal and I would definitely recommend it - even though it is optional. They were great and the resulting electrical diagram was a lot clearer than our home drawn one! Re: Fairmont Homes Custom Build Myponga, SA 40May 28, 2017 9:14 pm We have planning approval! Woo-hoo! Almost there... I am the most impatient person ever! We've been out pulling up weeds at the back of the block. Our dog passed away just after Easter We buried him on the block and planted our first fruit tree over him. Since then we (mostly my husband) have been spending time out there pulling weeds. It's so lovely and quiet Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ There is a small dent in the greenery Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ And one large pile of weeds! I'd get the gutters to match your roof and pipes to match the paint - otherwise they become a feature. Nice pick with the paint colours! 1 34273 6 55355 So it looks like we finally have some movement on site! Definitely later than expected, but I'll take any progress at this point. I'll drop by over the weekend to get… 5 27738 |
