Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 03, 2017 11:00 pm This is my first new build and my first post on this forum. I decided to go with Redink after viewing a number of show homes. I have completed my PCQ and have chosen my tiles, kitchen laundry and bathroom colours. I have to admit I am finding this process very daunting. I know nothing about building or builders and I am not good at handing control over to other people. This is my dream home and probably my last home purchase so I want to get it right. I have bought a rear entry cottage block and am putting on a 266m2 house plus a garage which leaves me with a very small garden - yay! I have decided to employ a building inspector to keep an eye on the structural build in case there are any major mistakes. I am hoping this is going to be a nice experience rather than an anxiety ridden one. @Madora Dreamer Re: New build SOR in Perth with Redink 3Apr 04, 2017 10:54 pm Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Kitchen/bathroom and laundry tiles. I have decided not to go with an interior designer as my daughter and mum are arty and have a good eye for colour. @Madora Dreamer Re: New build SOR in Perth with Redink 4Apr 04, 2017 10:57 pm Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Floor tile. I have to admit to being very shocked at the price of laying these tiles but it is my dream home... I have chosen not to go with the builders tiler as I was told they were extremely expensive by my sales rep. My first quote was from the tile shop. I think I will look around for more quotes closer to the time. @Madora Dreamer Re: New build SOR in Perth with Redink 5Apr 04, 2017 11:13 pm Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ 2nd draft. We got our floor tiles for the living area from Craft Decor - I am sure that they have a store SOR, we got a list of tilers from them and got a good price quoted. Good luck, will follow your build with interest . Re: New build SOR in Perth with Redink 12Apr 14, 2017 12:45 am My finance was approved today, so it's feeling more real now! I'm still stressing about my floor tiles. I picked them from imported ceramics and am having them laid privately. The tiler told me they will need to be reseated every 3 years, the shop says they don't. Not sure who to believe. I contacted one inspector in Mandurah but he has not bothered to return my call. Guess the knocks him out of the job! @Madora Dreamer Re: New build SOR in Perth with Redink 13Apr 14, 2017 5:39 pm I am not too sure about the tiles, but I found this site very helpful as I tried to get my head around porcelain tiles, rectified, non rectified etc etc http://www.australiantilecouncil.com.au ... nformation hope this might help you. Congratulations on the finance approval, another hurdle jumped. R. . Re: New build SOR in Perth with Redink 14Apr 14, 2017 9:53 pm Hi Scrapbizz, you mentioned you have not had a smooth start. Where are you at with your build? Is there anything I should be looking out for? I had some very basic mistakes made by the sales rep originally but he owned up and was very apologetic. I probably should have been less accommodating (all my friends told me to be) but I know if I didn't accept the price rise they would probably cut corners elsewhere to make it up. @Madora Dreamer Re: New build SOR in Perth with Redink 15Apr 15, 2017 4:58 pm We are at earthworks, supposedly to have a slab down by the end of April. Just read everything, and confirm any verbal conversations/commitments with an email. Keep a file and put all your variations and correspondence in it - very helpful. When we went to prestart the drawings they had were not right, we had spent 2 hours one night in their office with our rep getting it right (window heights, which way the windows and doors opened, width of the doors etc to find they had used our FIRST cut done three months before, so more delays while they got it right, so as I said keep everything you send or discuss. . Re: New build SOR in Perth with Redink 16Apr 15, 2017 9:12 pm That sounds a bit like my rep. I got the first draft done, signed off on it then he told me he has missed some of the walls when he made the house 1m wider and longer. The last drawing he did he used an earlier version and missed the changes from the previous plan. I have kept everything and send everything via email, but will print them out for prestart. Thanks for the advice 😀 @Madora Dreamer Re: New build SOR in Perth with Redink 17Apr 19, 2017 1:43 pm I had a phone call today from an interior designer from Redink. She has offered me her services for free for a whole day. Interesting that she was going to be $350 which I declined as I had decided both my mum and daughter are really good at this stuff. I most definetly am not. I think I will take her up on that offer though, a second opinion is always valuable. @Madora Dreamer Re: New build SOR in Perth with Redink 19Apr 19, 2017 5:49 pm I have selected my tiles and carpet, but am agonising over roof colour and window frames. I have started to look at furniture as well so it would be nice to have some input as to styles etc. @Madora Dreamer Re: New build SOR in Perth with Redink 20Apr 20, 2017 10:50 pm Can anyone tell me if there is an internal brick I should be using, or if one is better than another? @Madora Dreamer Thank you so much everyone.
